Why can't Vegans eat honey or jello?!

Question: just wonderin

Answers: just wonderin

Jello has gelatin and not even vegetarians can eat that--it has animal tendons in it.

honey is and animal product, so it's automatically out .

Vegans don't believe in eating anything that comes from any animal. Honey is made by bee's so that's out and Jello is actually made of Gelatine which is made from cow offal. (I know, real gross.)

i don't see how or why a veggo / vegan would oppose eating honey? It's not harmful to the bees in any way. I know eating honey can be seen as 'consuming' a product derived from another living organism; but isn't that what we do when we breathe oxygen? Think about it. PS. don't think i'm anti-vegetarian etc, because i AM one and have been for about 5 years.

Jello has gelatin in it which is boiled cow, pig, and fish bones, skin, tendons, ligaments, stuff like that. Honey is made by bees.

vegans choose not to eat these things.
bees aren't harmed in making honey-so I personally see no reason why they don't eat honey. besides without bees and the production of honey, the population would die

Vegans don't eat anything that comes from animal sources. Honey is food for the bees. Jello (gelatin) is made from the boiled bones, skins, ligaments and tendons of slaughtered animals. Watch for hidden gelatin in things like commercial ice creams, yogurt, pop tarts (icing), gummy candies, most gums and other sources.

vegans can eat jello but if they use agar-agar gelatin. It's made from seaweed and for honey you could use agave.

Vegans do not consume anything of animal origin, whatsoever.

Even vegetarians don't eat gelatin. It's a slaughter byproduct made by boiling bones, hides and connective tissues.

Honey is considered non-vegan because bees make it for themselves and taking it deprives them of a food source. Bees are also smoked out of their hives for collection and some die in the process. You'll find that honey is a point of debate among vegans - some vegans don't feel that insects have the same capacity for suffering that other animals do, so they don't avoid insect products. But, in the strictest definition, it's not vegan simply because it comes from an animal.

Just like others have said, vegans don't eat honey because bees make it for themselves. Without the bee regurgitating the honey there would be no food for winter.

So the bee works all spring and summer storing up food for the hive for winter and what happens? Someone comes along and collects what they would have used for themselves. Now, you have to ask yourself if they've just taken the honey that was to be food for the hive, how many bees are going to die because of a lack of food? And, as mentioned, how many bees are going to die from the smoking? Do you have to be a bee before you are able to understand that they just want to do there thing without any interference from us humans?

Do unto others as you would have them do to you. Just like you wouldn't want someone pulling the fire alarm just to get you out of your house so they can take your stuff - neither does the bee.

As for Jello, it's made from gelatin, which is the boiled bones, hides, ligaments, and tendons of slaughtered animals. Vegetarians don't eat gelatin either. And its not just in Jello, but it crops up in a number of things. I once saw it listed on a jar of Planter's Roasted Nuts!
