Any animal rights groups out there worth looking into?!

Question: I am strongly AGAINST PETA and the ALF. Any non violent groups that actually make sense? And please don't be mean, I base my opinion on facts.

I am a member of the Defenders of Wildlife and a new member of the World Society for the Protection of Animals.

Also check out Farm Sanctuary. They are awesome.

Edit** I can't imagine why someone gave me a thumbs down for giving info on such great organizations. Whomever did it should feel very ashamed.

Most groups do what they can with what resources they have available and what type of animal they are attempting to fight for rights towards, like this is the season for baby harp seal slaughtering in Canada.. even though this is very bad for both the animal and the enviorment , the Canuks see it as a viable source of yearly income to kill these poor creatures...

your not alone in this one, there are many animal rights groups that are glad to recruit more people all around the globe. I may not be in one but i hope the link below is some bit of help.

.. there is care2 which is all kinds of petitions human, animals, food, etc. There is also ASPCA- again it's writing to senators etc, & defeners of wildlife u know the wolves are off the endangered species list?

Here are some of my favorites:

Mercy for Animals:

Compassion Over Killing:

Vegan Outreach:

Also, please don't support the World Wildlife Fund. It endorses the seal hunt in Canada and promotes animal testing, among other things. http://www.harpseals.org/hunters/wwf.htm...

humane society, I loved their recent undercover work. And they are doing a decent job.

Voiceless is a great organization. They work to promote education, awareness and compassion. Tasteful and well thought out campaigns... that don't include nudity. (unlike PETA)

The best thing to do is go for small grass roots groups in your local region. They mostly need all the help they can get, and don't have the problems of corruption and political nastiness that you'll find in all the bigger groups mentioned here. I've done stuff with almost every major group in Australia, and the only thing which made me feel remotely human was a small group formed with just six other vegans. But I had really bad experiences with most of the big groups.

Check out yahoo groups for info on your area

I love the World Society for the Protection of Animals, they seem to get things done. I just received an email from them and they just saved two bears from that f-in bear baiting in Pakistan and are working to save more. Yey!

VIVA and CIWF might suit you

VIVA ) vegetarians international voice for Animals

CIWF - Compassion in world farming

These groups make a lot of sense. Thier campaigns are targetted at real change and decision makers. They are not interested in picketing outside KFCs.

I support Compassion Over Killing, and I volunteer regularly with them (they're headquartered in the area where I live) Their primary focus is on animals raised for food. I believe in 2005, VegNews magazine said that their the organization that gives you the most bang for your charity buck.

Humane Society of the U.S. is also an excellent organization.

I like both organizations because they don't resort to shock tactics and sexism to get their message across.
