I need to eat meat to live, is that true?!
I suspect I've been on a downward slope towards death during my 28 years on a veggie diet so now feel i need to address the situation.
My mistake, i thank all the meat-eating contributors on this site for putting me right.
So, out of all the nutrients I've been missing, which one in meat will now most improve my health ?
Answers: Having studied the pages on this forum I now conclude that i must eat meat in order to survive.

Thank you Michael for this very interesting question, i have been wondering this myself!
After 28 years of not eating the flesh of other animals I am surprised you are still well enough to sit at your computer and type in this question, please make sure you get plenty of rest in the next week or two!
As for the nutrients that you will find in meat that may help you spring back to A1 fitness, BSE? HORMONES? ANTIBIOTICS? LARD? MARROW FROM THE BONES?
MAYBE A NICE BIT OF GELATIN?
I wouldn't take these all at once, gradually introduce them to your diet and good luck!! :)
WOW Michael what a fantastic recipe, sounds lush, i love Brussels sprouts but there might be too much goodness in them for you, your health might deteriorate!
lol
r u kidding?
my bf's strictly vegetarian and he's alive and healthy and perfectly happy!
no you DO NOT need to eat meat.
It's about time you realized Michael H. Yes you need meat. To answer your question, mostly you need the bones, the fat, and if you can keep some of the hair on you steak, that will really improve your health.
Yes I'm being sarcastic. Lol! You do not need meat to survive at all. But of course you already know that.
Meat doesn't have anything that you can't get from veggies, beans, and grains.
Edit: You might want to think about the crow's answer. Has being a vegetarian affected your appearance? I mean have you always been a chicken or did you turn into one after becoming veggie? :P
Lol lol lol!!!!! All vegetarians I know look as normal as other people, if not better and healthier.
Edit 2: Don't change a thing Michael. You're a very handsome chicken!!! ;D
protein is one of the most important things you get from meat, however, if you choose to remain vegan or vegetarian, there are protien suppliments you could divulge in, such as nuts, beans ect.....good luck,
Youre certainly still getting enough of the sarcasm nutrient, so id say just carry on as you are :)
Edit... damn crow, does that mean all those perma tan footballers wives have been overdosing on the carrots.... get a life!
You don't NEED meat to live.
I'm vegetarian and I'm fine
No michael, since you appear to be a chicken you shouldn't eat meat as it may get stuck in your crop.
If you needed meat to live then all the non-meating humans and animals would have died long ago (remember there were herbivore dinosaurs and those are huge bodies to maintain without ingesting meat). There are some nutrients that can be found in animal flesh that are harder to find in a strictly vegetable/mineral diet but if you do your research you will find out vegan sources of these. (For example, vegan K2 is only found in nattou, fermented soybeans.) Plus, some vegans believe that these nutrients in animal flesh were from plants/soil originally but that the modern agriculture industry over cleans and thus those nutrients are lost unless you grow your own food.
What have you done! My God! Get that man on an I.V. drip and get him a steak!!! There is hope for you yet.
Nurse, get me 20cc of bacon... STAT.
Hold on, little buddy. You're gonna make it.
::edit::
Look at all the people that don't get it... I've lost faith in this forum.
Nope
I think that they are reffering to the protein in the meat, however you can get that from other foods:
Sources of Protein:
Type of food Quantity providing 10g protein (g)
Soya flour 24
Peanuts 39
Pumpkin seeds 41
Almonds 47
Brazil Nuts 50
Sunflower seeds 51
Sesame seeds 55
Hazel Nuts 71
Wholemeal bread 95
Whole lentils dried & boiled 114
Chickpeas dried & boiled 119
Kidney beans dried & boiled 119
Wholemeal spaghetti boiled 213
Brown rice boiled 385
As well as eggs and dairy.
Dude, obviously protein is the main vitamin in meat. How have you survived without getting protein from vitamins?!? I'm only 21 years in and not as almost-dead as you, so thank you for being a role model. I might just make it after all... as soon as I gag down this steak.
you can on over up to my BBQ joint and I ain't go nothing but the bestest beef.
28 years.....wow. Just think of all the plaque you are missing in the lining of your intestinal walls and arteries!
We meat eaters have developed this wonderful side effect that allows ALL of our nutrients to PASS RIGHT THROUGH us thus enabling our bodies to only digest 1/10 of the foods we consume while storing the majority of it as fat or simply blowing it out our rectal inhibitors.
I always wondered why your never jumped on the bandwagon and joined us???
If you want to improve your health, you can always try Lucille Balls tasty product "Meatavegamin" ....(hic). It works wonders for us meat eaters.
Best of luck!
hehe HAPPY APRIL FOOL'S DAY!! You're such a kidder
Oh dear, Michael. 28 years veg?
Where do you get your protein? You poor poor soul.
Haha, being vegetarian is amazing, I don't understand the haters at all! The haters won't bother you for long.
All that lovely pig fat is collecting in their arteries...
EDIT 2: WARNING!! ''Bite Me'' is actually Adam T's other account! Have a look through his Q&A! Oh yeah, busted!
Just by having studied the pages on this forum? oh dear.. what's wrong? april fool's day?
anyway i dunno about you, but i'm doing very well without meat!
April Fools! Or how the french say it, Poisson d'Avril!
you do not need meat to live..you need protein, but you can get that elsewhere...
but if you must...do chicken or fish...
I do not know if you need meat to survive but I do so I will continue to eat it.
3oz. of red meat a week will get u by just fine. I am 70, in good health, take NO med.s and feel just fine.
Strictly speaking, you can survive without meat.
But ask yourself this: Has being a vegetarian adversly impacted the quality of your life? Most vegetarians I have met have some abnormality of their appearance I can not help but think is caused by diet.
Step into the light and enjoy what you eat!
Me too.. I want to know.I haven't had meat in 6 years and that half marathon I ran last year was just a really good dream...
I am a vegetarian so my answer would be obvious. But 5.4 billion omnis out of world population of 6 billion certainly will agree with the statement that you need meat. And that number is certainly a lot more than the vegetarian societies you have so much faith in and constantly harp about.
Every person is on a downward slide to death as soon as they are born. You may not need meat, but you do need a chill pill
My son became vegan once but he got made fun of more about that then for being a homosexual so he started eating meat again.
Alright, here's hoping for a 'best answer'.
You do NOT need meat to survive - HOWEVER, it is far more difficult to get protein from non meats than from meats - and if you are a vegan, you can eat as much soy as you want - you're not getting the kind of protein a carnivore gets.
The fact is, everyone metabolizes differently. You personally, though having been a 28 year vegitarian, have a body that needs more protein than average. That's not weird, we're all different. We are all snowflakes. Anyway, yes, I would (as would any MD) suggest you get yourself some meat, to counteract what seems to be you becoming anemic.
Now, poultry is light, pork is darker, and cow is darker still. You want a solid dark meat to keep you healthy.
Get yourself to a steakhouse and eat some Steak O Poivre.
Now don't overdo this - you don't want to end up with cholesterol issues, but I would say that you should be eating 4 meals a week involving beef. Whether it's a burger, a hot dog, a juicy buffalo steak (mmm), you need your complex proteins and amino acids, and the stuff you've been getting from soy/tofu or WHATEVER, may have some protein, but does not provide the same amino acids as some beef.
Feel better,
Sam
you dont need meat to survive..but it wont kill you to eat it either...i could survive without eating apples...should i not eat them since i dont need them???
should you eat any of your veg...since theoretically you dont need it? its all about personal choice.
you dont need cars but u have one, u dont need holidays but you take them...so whats The problem with meat when you dont need it.
EDIT scottie what are you talking about...i cant change my nickname...is that against the law???? your other account is hollywood hottie...should i call you a troll for that????
lol grow up and stop crying like a baby
