Your first reaction to the ''Meet your Meat'' video?!

Question: I am repulsed at the way the animals are being treat.
I found it sickening and upsetting.

Surely, Slaughterhouses are never ''natural'...

Much loveage,
Scottie :o)

Tears...and more tears.
I actually had nightmares after that....
You're right - there's absolutely nothing natural about that process. I cannot believe that I actually used to eat burgers, chicken breasts, etc. Had I known back then what my food experienced whilst it was alive, I would have become vegan a LONG time ago!

::EDIT:: I am not sure where PETA found the footage and I'm not sure if they composed the pieces for shock value alone. Despite their motivation, I'm a little concnerned that some responders have [somewhat] shrugged that the videos are "worst-case scenario" clips. While that might be true, the fact that this happens at ALL is horrifying. Just because a majority of farms might or might not operate this way is certainly no reason to excuse this treatment of the animals.

Had to star it. Most interesting and more people need to be aware of this. Report It

  • fake propaganda .....a manufactured video to promote foolish ideals
no I am not adam but I do know the truth
very good zv.......finally a vegan that knows how it is you all could learn something from her if you weren't so blinded by peta and it's BS

I don't deny there are problems with the meatpacking industry, but being that PETA has a pernicious habit of blowing issues out of proportion and distorting facts, I take their material with a truckload of salt.

My grandfather was a butcher, so I knew from a very early age that meat wasn't picked off trees in those neat little plastic and styrofoam packages.

I wouldn't go as far as saying its propaganda because it is really happening. Your bacon doesn't just fall from the sky. However, PETA is taking the worst of the worst footage and putting it all together. There is no doubt that many large scale cafos' treat animals in that way but in the end PETA is like any political organization. What they don't show is the money they use to help fund organizations like Animal Liberation Front which is a far more militant animal rights group.
I have very little respect for PETA.

I knew what to expect and the cruelty animals faced in the meat industry today, so I would be lying to say I was surprised by what I saw.

I became vegetarian before I watched that video, but it's a good way to show others what it takes to get their steak on their plate.

My first reaction was to investigate more. to see wheather this was real. The resutl of that research made me vegan.

Sadly, I have seen worse. But I put the link here, I will get reported. -

Couldn't finish it. My mother tried for months to convince me it was what DM called it - manufactured for shock by peta - but after tons of research I decided it didn't matter if "Meat Your Meat" was genuine or not; because either way, there's things going on in factories and farms that just as bad if not worse.

Propaganda. It's as bad as "Reefer Madness". Hypocritical as well because if they did a "Meet Your Veggies" they would have to show millions of rabbits and birds are slaughtered during crop maintenance and harvests.

These same people will turn around and go to the pharmacy, doctor or a hospital, a part of society whose livelihood survives on animal testing of drugs, surgical methods, equipment, supplies and research.

I am a vegan because my dedication to my own life choices has made me aware. I do not need PETA telling me what to do or collecting my money so that they can make another stupid nude calendar that glorifies exploitation of women as sex objects rather than creatures with brains.

I was shocked!! Because I had never seen footage like that before. I knew that it was some of the worst material out there and most likely some propaganda, but if it happens at all it happens too much.

Other non-PETA videos show some of the same things. I'm sure you've heard about Earthlings. Do a search on google video and some of the same things show up in that documentary only that film is so much better put-together.

Also, the book "Slaughterhouse" by Gail Eisnitz records some of the same things. Apparently, they interviewed hundreds of slaughterhouse workers and they all admitted to abusing animals or not reporting those who did.

The book "Fast Food Nation" again details some of these horrible things that Meet Your Meat also shows.

The book "Mad Cowboy: Plain Truth From The Cattle Rancher Who Won't Eat Meat" by Howard Lyman also touches on these issues of slaughter and living conditions.

So once again, yes Meet Your Meat shows the worst of the worst and is likely propaganda but if it happens at all it happens too much.

Awful beyond words for me. I'm scarred on some level from those images, many of which I can't get out of my head some two years later.

As a result, beyond being vegan, I have almost no tolerance for blood and gore on tv and movies anymore. We even had to stop watching CSI, if you can believe that. Sad but true.

My reaction was I rolled my eyes.

This is in stark contrast to a lecture given in an environmental science class in college about sustainability and the harsh environmental effects of the meat industry. I remember thinking "I should really try to eat a little less meat."

btw i dont think DM and Adam T are the same. DM is a hunting enthusiast who occasionally makes a good point. Adam T is just an idiot.

I was SHOCKED!! It's one of those things that you know happens but never put much thought into it and sort of shove to the back of your mind and not think about. I cried throughout many parts of the video and it made me become a vegetarian. I absolutely do NOT think it's fake because food DOES come from animals and the animals DO go through a "process". Plus all these factories and farms just care about the product. They don't a F*** about the animals. I had also heard that animal abuse laws do not apply to factory/farm animals and that's why there is no punishment for mistreating them.

My first and lasting reaction is it was made to collect supporters from younger and gullible persons. It's a racket.

I agree that most of the meat industry is rife with animal abuse, that is very true. What I object to is an organization which collects billions of dollars and all they really do is make these torture videos, organize protests and make sex calendars. These same young persons see through governments and politicians who take tax money and campaign donations, then do next to nothing other than making videos, brochures and talk. But they do not see through the people who made ''Meet your Meat''.

Do your part by showing others that you are genuine in your beliefs. I was doing this long before the ''Meet your Meat'' came along.

Absolutely sick to my stomach....ill... and with nightly thoughts of the horrific events that go on in slaughterhouses and fur farms keeping me up at night. Whatever people say about PETA videos being edited, they are real. People just dont want to believe it. The worst video I have ever seen was about live exports to Cairo Egypt and cows being sliced at their ankles to get them to slip and fall onto their own blood and blood of the many other cows tortured and killed there. The only good thing that comes out of the slaughter is that the animal finally dies and escapes the horrific pain of this brutal, terrorist-like torturing. PETA does go to the extreme, but they get things done and give people a lot of leads on how to help, one cruelty case after another. They are ambassadors for the animals. Many celebrities no longer wear fur because of PETA exposing the fur industry to them, and I applaud them for that. Meet your Meat, was true footage and very hard to watch, if only everyone could see this film, the world would be a much compassionate place. Also, rent "I AM ANIMAL" and watch the series "Earthling". for more information on spreading compassion. xoxo

I still haven't brought myself to watch the entire video... It's a terrible thing.

I still cry over it. I think meat eaters are stupid and they should all be put in prison for being murderers.
