Any CHEAP Vegan bread?!

Question: I don't want bread made with milk & eggs but the only bread I have found that is totally vegan is at Trader Joe's for like, 7 bucks a loaf!! And the loaves aren't that big. Anyone know any cheaper places? I don't have the time to bake my own.

7 bucks a loaf at Trader Joe's!!

Ezekiel breads are vegan and only 3.50 or so each at TJ's... and this one bread I buy from them is less than 3 dollars!

Are you sure that you were reading labels correctly? Just because something says "vegan" or has the vegan seal on it doesn't mean that's the only products that are vegan in a store :)

I read ingredients labels and I have found vegan bread everywhere... Target has a vegan multigrain bread that's organic from their Archer Farms line (no honey, no eggs, no dairy, no non-vegan preservatives or flavoring). Last I checked it was just over $3.50 each.

Cheap anything will land you in the hospital. If it's cheap, then it was made with cheap grains and chemicals.

I'm fond of French Meadow. Most of their breads are vegan.

Try pita.

Plus, it's super easy to make vegan breads. I'm very fond of making fresh naan for dinner.

Believe it or not, wonder bread is vegan. There are a bunch of other ready-made, basic products that are vegan. Here's a good link: http://www.veganwolf.com/ready_made_vega...

The best bread (and cheapest) is homemade bread. YOu can make it just how you want it, you know what's in it and it's a lot cheaper to buy the ingredients (flour, water, yeast...) instead of the finished loaf.

Hiya, Hovis do a really lovely vegan wholemeal bread.

Check the label. It's delicious and full of nutrients, like zinc, iron and so on..

Best wishes,
scottie :o)

This site has a list of vegan breads:

I get the Vermont Bread Company breads from Whole Foods... I just checked my receipt and they're $4.19 each.

Good luck!

Wow that's strange, I just bought the Omega Seed Bread from Trader Joe's and it was 3 bucks including tax. Maybe you should check there again. I know that Ezekiel breads are found in the frozen section and go for about 4 dollars. That's really not that bad if you are just eating it yourself. If your family is eating it too then it would be a waste.

I've never seen $7 bread at Trader Joe's but it could be a geographic issue? (Whole Foods, yes) I don't buy a lot of the Trader Joe's breads anyway because they're not really whole grain healthy. If you want cheap vegan bread, start looking at sourdough since a lot of it is vegan.
