Are margaritas vegan?!

Question: the frozen ones from bars? or ones that you make at home ?

Answers: the frozen ones from bars? or ones that you make at home ?

Yes, they are. Lime juice, sugar, ice and tequila. Sometimes bars use lemon mix instead of the lime juice. It's still fine.

Some people will use an egg white to give a margarita the frothy look. I doubt that any bars would do it because of the concerns with eating raw egg white. And when you're making it at home, you know exactly what goes in it, so don't worry.

Oh, and tequila NEVER has the worm. If you buy a bottle with a worm, that's mezcal, not tequila. Mezcal is made from agave, but it's produced outside of the Tequila region of Mexico (just like cognac has to be made in the Cognac region of France, or else it's called brandy).

Just don't eat the worm.

Yeas they are!!

I don't see why they wouldn't be. It's just tequila, triple sec liquor, ice, lime, and whatever other flavoring you want in it.

Just as you aren't using the Tequila with the worm, you should be fine.

I guess you could call them vegan.

The main ingredient is Tequila. If the tequila doesnt contain the worm in it or if it wasn't processed using worm goods then it should be vegan.
Otherwise, it contains a worm in the bottle.

like someone else said occasionally they wil add egg whites to "Sour" drinks to make them frothy..
margaritas, whisky sours etc..

Frozen margaritas offend me. (Processed junk that doesn't taste good) Otherwise I don't see how a margarita couldn't be vegan--never heard of frothy egg whites for margaritas. Beer/wine is an issue due to the non-vegan filtration process that is common. In a similar regard, I prefer clear tequila, not caramel color, for its purity.

some processed sugar contains gelatin which is made from the hooves and bones of cows and horses. so maybe, maybe not.

You know "the worm" doesn't exist right? The "worm" is actually the larval from a moth. And it is only present in poor quality products. You shouldn't really have this problem.

As long as you aren't using the tequila with a creature in it (worm, scorpion, snake, etc) sure. Miller beer however is most definitely not!

Here's some good information on the vegan-ness of various types of alcohols, including separate lists for beer, wine and liquor: http://www.tastebetter.com/features/booz...

I just skimmed the liquor list and the only tequila I saw on there was Cuervo, which is vegan. Beyond that, you'd want to know what's in the mix (should be fine as long as you're not fussed about the origins of any sugar) or, if you're making them without a mix, you'd need to check into triple sec - I didn't see it on the list. Looks like most liquors are OK, except creamy ones like Bailey's and some whiskeys.

PS: according to communications between Miller and tastebetter, Miller beers are indeed vegan, as are most of the mass market American brewers.

I really hope so!
