animal rights
only to a certain extent though, i mean we cant just let all animals roam about free but just to make sure they live a life free of unnecessery pain (which by the way, in that definition of animal welfare - testing and killing animals for meat I consider to be unnecessery) and are safe and protected in a habitat thats natural to them x

i belelive in animal rights

Not really. Animals should not be tortured, but I have no problem with eating them.

absolutely!

I believe in being humane to animals. Not being cruel to animals. But animals have no rights.

I believe it is possible to treat animals who will eventually become food ethically during their lives, seeing to it they are as happy and healthy as possible, and making their deaths quick and painless. I mean, really, how do I know when I die, someone sort of being isn't going to eat me. And given the option, I'd elect to go quickly instead of suffering a long, drawn out "human" death we are often in for, and to have my remains go to some sort of use.

I STRONGLY disagree with treating animals badly for any reason, and if this is the only way we can use them for food, by shoving them into coops where they can't move or pumping them full of injections, then we have no business eating what we get from them. THAT is evil.

Animal Rights and Animal Lib. is the way to go in my eyes.

Animal Welfare is impossible. How do you conduct research on an animal without causing it pain? It just doesn't work.

To Mike L below, I also live in California and there is rarely enforcement of animal law. The SPCA doesn't really do anything in CA, they own a few shelters but they do not respond to cases of animal abuse. That is up to Animal Control, which is usually funded by a city or town jurisdiction. Also, the SPCA and PETA are not certified to be inspectors of meat and dairy businesses so how would they stop anything? I think you mean the USDA, which does nothing but take bribes and turn a blind eye.

Yes I believe in them both.

I do not believe in Wikipedia though. Wikipedia is chockful of misinformation, disinformation and inaccuracies and should not be used as a source of facts. It's a good starter point but shouldn't be relied on for accuracy in general.

yes

and i like wikipedia
un like my frind above me says

you can learn alot from wikipedia
so they are not always right.
but it is way better then the old Encyclopedia thats gets out dated every few weeks

i think these two classifications are unfair. i would say i fall more into the animal rights catagory, but i do not believe that animals actually have legal rights. i think they should be respected as we would respect fellow humans (who are also animals). for example, i think that neglect of an animal should carry the same sentence as child neglect. however, because an animal cannot defend itself in court giving them rights would be difficult. i guess i want RESPECT for animals more than rights......i think the former would help bring about the latter.

My diet choice is not based on animal rights or welfare. While I can't deney that most meat gets mistreaded (an understatement) while it is living; my diet choices are based on what I believe is healthy. I don't believe that while we are this earth that humans will ever fully treat animals with full respect. And I must wonder how sad God is watching us destroy his creation by our own selfish appitate! I can make sure the animals I come in contact with that I give them respect, that would be my end! I can only look foward to a time in heaven when no humans or animals will hurt or suffer!
It will happen!

start with animals welfare, and continue to animal rights.

Of course!!

Welfare
Animals have no rights..
it is an impossibility fraught with misplaced compassion
Most who believe in animal rights are Anthropomorphists
How would you assign rights to the millions of field animals that are mutilated in the veggie fields or poisoned around grain elevators?
rights are based on reciprocation and animals have no way to reciprocate

Rights and liberation. I'm NO welfarist.

Arrh, i've just read the wikipedia definitions.

The "animal welfare" one is a joke.

hence I've deleted my previous answer.

I cannot say i agree with animal welfare as per your definition

Welfare is about care. Your chosen definition is about exploitation.

Welfare is defined as "something that aids or promotes well-being", not as described on wiki-nonsense.

Your definitions says "Animal welfare refers to the viewpoint that it is morally acceptable for human beings to use animals for food, in animal research, as clothing, and in entertainment, so long as unnecessary suffering is avoided"

Who defines "unnecessary" ??

So, by the wiki definition. Anyone who beleives in Animal Welfare beleives its ok to eat animals.

Sorry, but thats silly.

I'm glad i read the wiki-nonsese links, normally i ignore wikipedia and this just re-enforces that really.

Absolutely. I believe in both of them.

I live in California and I am quite confident the laws,, and the SPCA,, along with peta,, monitor the animal right very well
As for your photo of the Shanghai Monkey that is a different world.. I do not see any thing wrong.. The man has a belly pack which I am sure has food and water...
BTW I see her left hand just under her left breast..
Sorry buy the story is Biased.
It is obvious you have no real knowledge of life when "you must provide everything for your self..raise the animals plant the food and the harvest..
