I was told by a dietician that most vegetarians will never lose as much weight as meat eaters or even be as successful on sensible diet plans because a good bit of the vegetarian diet consists of carbs. He told me that 100% of his overweight vegetarian clients were disappointed with their weight loss. I was vegetarian (now vegan) and looking to lose 20 lbs.

I don't have an 'answer' as such, but I am a strict vegetarian aswell, and I can't seem to go back to my normal weight either. If you do find anything out, please contact me. I'll see what I can find, and get back to you!

Apparently cutting the carbs, so rice and pasta etc, helps the whole weight thing.

Hi. Firstly you should disregard your weight and look instead at your BMI. (body mass index) You can actually, get thinner while simultaneously gaining weight. The reason is because muscle mass is heavier than fat.

Also, I'm not sure what you are doing for your workouts, but make sure you mix it up with cardio and weights. Although, building muscle mass may or may not make you heavier, you will burn more fat if you have more muscle mass. Even if you are just sitting in a chair and doing nothing. The end result is that you will look more toned, which I am guessing is one of your goals.

Hope that helps.

well, i just recently turned 14 this march, and i have been a semi-vegetarian for two years already (i plan to be a vegetarian as soon as my mom allows me to cause from what she says i am a "growing" girl) but my advice is being a vegetarian is NOT about losing weight but it is about protecting animals from being slaughtered, animal rights and being plain healthy. so if you are healthy already (from what the doctors say), you are perfectly fine.

cheese and eggs, that's what is getting you. For weight loss I suggest you keep you meals small and frequent. Lots of hot stuff can raise your metabolisim. Stuff like soup- I recommend lentil- its filling- and nutritious. Also- try working out twice a day. Once in the morning to get your blood circulating- this reves up your metabolisim for the day. And again six or so hours later to keep your metabolisim going. Even if its cheese that you love so much- try Almond cheese- some brands are not quite vegan but are low in cal and have no cholestrol. As for eggs, the only reason I used to eat it was for breakfast. Try incorporating a good tofu scramble. They are easy to make. Or try out Amy's frozen tofu scramble. Its soo good- you won't even miss the egg.
Working out for an hour may not be good for weight loss. You need to change your work outs so your body doesn't get used to it.

You can eat very healthy and still be eating too much or too little. You need to know how many calories you should be eating in a day and stick to it.

Use this link to find out how many calories you need per day: http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie...

Also, what kinds of workouts are you doing? Honestly, if I can work out for a full hour, I'm not working nearly hard enough. If you are working intensely (and you should), your workouts shouldn't be more than 30-45 minutes (excluding warm-up and cool-down). If you are working out 4 times a week, say Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, then I would recommend doing 2 days of cardio (running, swimming, etc.) and 2 days of resistance training (free weights, machines, bodyweight exercises).

Ex.:
Monday: Resistance Training
Tuesday: Cardio
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: Resistance Training
Friday: Cardio
Weekend: Rest
