Can you give me tips onto how to become a vegetarian?!

Question: I mean, can you tell me what kinds of foods I can eat and drink and what I shouldn't exactly eat. I want to stick to this diet, but I don't really know too much about being a vegetarian. Can anyone here give me some tips onto be a better vegetarian? All helpful tips are welcome.

P.S. - if you say that being a vegetarian is a bad in anyway, I will give thumbs down automatically - I have no plans onto eating meat.

ah!! *claps pleased* im a vegetarian! plas bein a vegetarian is veri healthy if u do it rigth, cause my mom is a nutritionist an she helps me.
do u want to cut out milk an seafood too? i dont have milk or dairy but i do it tuna ocasionally. i think the most important thing is findin a brand of soy you like!! 'cause soymilk is rich in calcium an protiene an can replace milk an meat. an not all soymilk brands taste the same, so i wud try out differnt kinda to see what u like, it might take a little getting used to, but it wont give u a tummy ach or mucus liek milk used to give me.
plas whole grains are real important, liek at my whole foods i buy ezekial bread which is made out of sprouted grains. at first i hated it, but its good toasted, an very flavorful an hearty, u have to chew it, its work, but u wont mind that at all once uve been on ur diet!! cause fruits an vegetables leave the stomach more quickly than meat {a good thing, cause the longer somethin is in ur stomach, more of it turns to fat} but ull get hungry quicker, jus havea lot of little snacks u can eat, i always snack on prunes an raisons, u can have seeds or healthy trail mix, or jus have a cup of pinapple or an apple when ur hungry.
some meals i liek to eat are puffed rice with honey an soymilk, i love to make soymilk , strawberry an stevia {natual sweetner} "milk"shakes, i love to toast ezkial bread an put buttery sticks imitation butter {made from olive oil, dont use margarin, theres trans fats in it} an honey or jam. i love portabello mushroom burgers which i eat with ezkial with the crusts cut off, mayonaise, an BBQ sauce, theres all sorts of fake nuggets an fake hotdogs too, u might have to try a few brands tho, soem are discusting, some u swear are better than the real thing!!! i also love rice, shrimp ramen, an stir fry. i also have a recipe for vegan pancakes. ill give u that!! also a recipe for the mosst delicios stirfry uve ever had!! yah yah one sec n_n &hearts

The best advice I can give is ALWAYS read the labels.
You will be shocked at how many products have some sort of animal product. Cheeses, cupcakes, candies, sugar...you name it. There are animal products everywhere!
Luckily veg*nism is getting popular so there are a lot of sites that will help you. I like this one: http://www.geari.org/vegan-products-conv...

To become a vegetarian? EAT VEGETABLES !!!

a tip on being a vegitarian is to not eat meat!!! well just use substitutes for meats i dont know any but i know there are some!!

Be sure to have a good multi - vitamin. There are important nutrients needed from meat that with out the vitamin you will not get. Best of luck!

I do not eat red meat but I still eat fish because it is really good for you. So, if you are just planning on not eating any red meat, I would highly suggest incorporating fish into your meals. If not, then you should definitely try eating beans or nuts; foods that have a lot of protein in them. You can also buy protein shakes to help make up for the protein you will lack from not eating meat.

Protein is going to be a major consideration. Consider eating eggs... ask a chicken if it minds. Heck, ask a fish what it's long term goals are. It doesn't know. It won't beg for mercy. They have the I.Q. of a Roomba. But I digress.

Beans have high protein and fiber and are a good candidate for a staple food item. Beans and rice together are a "complete protein" - they contain all the essential amino acids needed for survival. Eat brown rice, not white, when you can.

Broccoli is pretty good. Spinach and kale. Almonds are expensive but worth it - protein and good fats. Other tree nuts are good, and even peanuts.

Look for vegetables that are colorful and low in starch. Don't eat refined grains often. Don't eat refined anything for that matter. Boil some quinoa; that's a good grain. Don't eat commercial "health foods" with long lists of unrecognizable ingredients. They are for suckers.

I don't know; I'm out of thoughts. Plenty of good info on the web. You need to do a lot of research.

Oh, and thumb me down, because vegetarianism is bad anyway. But with just a little bit of meat and some research, it's golden.

Just because you asked this question, I'm personally doubling my meat consumption this week.

Vegetarians don't eat food from dead animals (meat - including fish and other seafood - and slaughter byproducts like meat broths, lard, tallow or beef fat, gelatin and rennet, a coagulant used to make cheese.) Each vegetarian must decide for themselves whether to eat dairy products and eggs, foods which come from live animals.

Anything else is fair game. A balanced vegetarian diet will include plently of legumes, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. The easiest way to transition is probably to make the dishes you know you like, but with meat substitutes in place of the meat. From there, just start looking for vegetarian recipes to add to your repertoire. There are literally millions of them available online and dozens of great vegetarian cookbooks.

I strongly suggest picking up a copy of "The New Becoming Vegetarian" by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina for complete coverage of vegetarian nutrition. You'll learn how to have a healthy diet where you get all your nutrients from... food (yeah, the people who say you need a bunch of supplements or that protein is a major concern are just off-base.)

There is a product out there that works very well in any recipe asking for ground beef (chili, pasta sauce, etc): Morningstar Recipe Crumbles. It's made from soy. Give it a try!

go to you tube and type in meet your meat. It will make your mind up for you

I've been a vegetarian for 6 years and I think that when you start you can go one of two ways. You can ween yourself off meat if you have had it in your diet constantly. Like don't eat pork for a week, then don't eat beef the next week, and don't eat chicken the week after that. I didn't do that, I just stopped and since meat was in my diet, I had weird cravings and like one day of withdrawel. After that, find out how extreme you want to be with your vegetarianism. Do you want to eat fish? Will you eat regular dairy or vegetaian dairy? Will you eat gelatin? I don't eat fish, or any kind of seafood. I eat regular dairy but I avoid eating egg yolk. I avoid gelatin aswell. You can eat everything, potatoes, spaghetti, pizza, rice, beans, ice cream, sandwachies, pastries and stuff. You can always find something to eat at restuarents or fast food places. Good news if you like burger king, subway, mcdonalds, etc; They no longer deep fry their fries in lard which is healthier and vegetarian friendly. Also at burger king they have a veggie burger. Now that your vegetarian soy, is a very good thing. If you want you can eat all that fake meat boca, soy based stuff. I really don't like to though. You shouldn't exactly eat, marshmellows, ramen soup, most spaghetti sauces have little chuncks of meat, anything cooked in any type of animal fat, stuff like that. In order to stick to the diet, just make a vegetarian version of all your favorite foods. There's a lot of really good food that contains no meat so. The only tips I can give you is that be really happy with the choice you've made and only good things will come from it. AND NEVER CHEAT. I was really happy making my choice of becoming a vegetarian when I was ten and my parents and friends weren't really supportive at first...but now my immune system is better (i used to get sick at least once a month) and my family eats a lot healthier and thanks me for it! There are going to be a lot of people who want to know why you're vegetarian, and I don't like saying because then they always make it some arguement that blah blah blah animals were made to eat. I honestly don't care if people eat meat or they don't, everybody has reasons for what they do. Hope I was of help, this is the longest answer I've ever wrote! BEST OF LUCK!!
