Vegetarians/Vegans: what do you feed your carnivorous pets?!
Answers: Cats, dogs...what do you feed them?
When my cat was diagnosed with kidney failure, I discovered the best way to help him was to put him on real meat. Cats are desert dwellers and would naturally get liquid from their kills. As such, dry kibble causes them bodily harm.
Then when I got my dog, I did nutritional research because I hadn't owned a dog in 20 years. I found out then that raw meaty bones were good for her. Not cooked bones. So she also gets raw meat.
I try my very best to avoid any meats from factory farms. I try my very best to buy from local compassionate farmers.
Since veganism is a lifestyle, although I strive to live as a vegan, as long as I'm giving my animals other animals to eat, I can't be a true vegan.
I'm ok with that.
I feed my cat organic cat food. He's not vegan.
My dog loved cooked oatmeal and carrots. But I didn't impose a vegetarian diet on her as I figured dogs are omnivores by nature.
My cats get regular cat food. Cats are not meant to be vegetarian & I have no right to force my food views on them....it would kill them.
My goldfish has fish flakes.
Dogs can be vegetarian. Cats cannot.
My two dogs get a mixed diet, - and my cats get a normal kitty food. They don't have a choice, we do. thats the difference.
my dogs are omnivores, and I just buy them regular old dog food. just because i'm a veg doesn't mean my family has to be (yes, my dogs are my family).....my husband is an omni as well. i think it's a personal choice that shouldn't be imposed on anyone else.
My dog is a very happy 10 year old vegetarian. She still runs 3-4 miles with me everyday.
My cat is a carnivore but she eats Dr. Weil's organic cat food that doesn't have chicken meal.
cat food. and dog food. they are carnivores. people are not.
my cat refuses to eat any 'bought' cat food, if i put it out he ignores it, i have tried every brand and style (my hubby, who is not a veggie, even cooked him fresh meat and fish, but no) after nearly a year of wasted food we gave up feeding him, he catches mice and birds and the occasional rat or vole from the riverside, at first i felt guilty for not feeding him, but now i just figure he is a 'back to nature' kinda boy.
I don't force my dietary choices on any creature. If my dog requests vegetarianism, I'll oblige. Otherwise, she'll eat about anything (but she loves fresh veggies as treats).
