If you were going to kill an animal for food what would be the most respectful way to go about it?!
I believe if it is a matter of survival it is understandable to consume as limited an amount of animals as possible for food.
At the same time there should be a respect and appreciation for the animals that somehow should be expressed to retains ones awareness of their sacrifice as well as to make the process of their death as painless as possible.
Answers: Before you all get up in arms I am a vegan and advocate such to the majority of people. There are however those that don't have much choice, for example those who live above the arctic circle. There also may be remote mountainous regions where a variety of plant matter may be scarce, like much of Tibet.

I would never kill an animal for food, I could not take a life even to preserve my own, I would find another way to survive. I have a friend who lives in a tiny remote village in Alaska and she says while it would be costly and difficult to live as a vegan there it would not be impossible, you would have to use a lot of tinned stuff and grow things indoors for fresh stuff.
Edit;
(regarding the point about about veganism not being practical in certain situations - the question was not "what would be the most respectful way to kill an animal for food?" it was "IF YOU were were going to kill an animal for food what would be the most respectful way to go about it? " and so my answer to the actual question posed still is "I never would".)
''Humane Slaughter'' is paradoxical.
Animals suffer regardless of how ''humanely'' they are killed.
This is why I became a vegetarian. I don't believe there is a ''pleasant'' way to die.
[edit] Morgan, I'm unsure of how to explain ''paradox''. The best way to describe this is to imagine a straight lesbian. Such a person cannot exist, so it is said to be paradoxical. Hope this helps!
sedate the animal...hehehe....
theres no other way..
happy scottie is right. there is no pleasent way to die. but i dont know what paradoxical means. lol. : )
I understand your question and that some people have to kill animals for survival, and I agree with you that in certain climates they have to do this as they have very little plants growing, they do this to survive and do not really have any choice.
We are lucky as we have the choice whether to eat animals or not.
But I really don't know the most respectful way to kill an animal, I suppose it would be the quickest and least painful way.
Just the thought makes me upset as I am a vegan too!
We always shot domestic animals behind an ear. They always went down immediately. A simple prayer of thanks was often included. Wild game was carefully stalked and as clean a shot as possible was attempted.
I respect your views and as you say there are regions in the world including our own that people need meat for food, that is the majority of the human race. I do believe however that any animal slaughter should be as quick and as painless as possible and a thanks given to its spirit when eaten.
I would sever the brain stem. A good head shot blow out the cerebral cortex. Wouldn't even know they died.
Sorry not gonna get ethical or moral and say weather it's right or wrong it is only my opinion on how to do it.
Shot to the head, preferably in the cerebrum (the center that feels pain).
Definitely no throat slitting before the animal is unconscious (brain dead).
It is the brain stem that controls the heart and pumping of blood, so unless you want blood in the meat, you have to knock out the cerebrum without harming the brain stem.
