Since I'm a vegetarian, can I eat icing/frosting?!

Question: I looked at the ingredients on the frosting container and it said Beef fat...I'm not sure what that is. Does that mean I can't eat icing?

Obviously you won't be eating that brand but if you keep reading labels you are sure to find one that is totally OK for Vegetarians and Vegans.

For a dairy rich Orange Cream Filling try

Then fill with Orange Cream Frosting and ice with remainder of the Butter Cream or Sour Cream frostings. Top with a sprinkle of Chocolate Covered Candied Orange Peel

In the top of your double boiler melt 1? pounds of grated Organic Bitter –Sweet or Semi Sweet Chocolate along with 10 oz. of Milk Chocolate. No beef tallow anyhere to be found!

I'm assuming this question isn't serious because it's screamingly obvious what beef fat is, but on the off chance that someone is unlcear on the subject: beef fat is fat from beef. SO not vegetarian. Look for frosting made with vegetable shortening.

im pretty sure you can eat icing.for i dont think it has beef juice in it.

p.s. next time u go shopping, look at different icing bottles(if party ask friend to bring continer of icing if availible

Beef fat is cow fat which comes from an animal called a cow. There are also a lot of frostings that don't contain animal products.

Yes

You can still eat frosting. Just dont eat that knd. look for something with vegetable shortning.... or make your own so that that way you KNOW for a fact what is in it.

well, you can't eat that frosting, but there are lots of frostings you can eat. Kosher frosting is vegetarian (since you cant put meat and dairy together.) Also, if you're not sure if a frosting is vegetarian, don't eat it.

A lot of frostings sold in the store are not only vegetarian, but vegan. They do contain partially-hydrogenated fats though, which are worse for you than beef fat! (albeit vegetarian)

You can make your own frostings or icings at home using non-hydrogenated margarine and shortening, powdered sugar, a little milk, and whatever flavoring you like (vanilla extract, or cocoa powder for chocolate). Icing is even easier. Pour a bowl of powdered sugar, add a little vanilla extract, a little corn syrup, then slowly (1 tbsp at a time) add milk and stir really well until it's the consistency you want.
