Vegans and Vegetarians.. what if...??!

Question: The big "if".. I know this is unlikely- but it just came to me while day dreaming, and i didn't realize what I would do..
so- lets say you just happened to get left out at sea (plane crash ect. ect) and you ended up on an island with questionable plants, questionable berries, and nothing that looks familiar at all? What do you do? Eat the fish? Eat the crab? Eat the questionable boar that roams mid island (yeck!) Eat the insects- or take your chances with the (poisonous berries)? I wouldn't have a choice as I'm allergic to seafood anyway..
But I would like to know your choice and why

I would find myself some fruit, coconuts, fire sticks and an assortment of palm leaves.

Firstly, i would take the salt out of some water by condensing the water onto the palm leaves and collecting it in coconut shells. I'd aim for 5 litres - this might take a few weeks of cool evenings.

Then i would crush unwashed fruit and berries and add it to the fresh water. I would add crushed sugar cane too.

I would heat it gently to 25 degrees for a few weeks.

I would cool it, and decant into half-litre coconut shells.

I would sit back, relax and enjoy my coconut wine while watching the world go by.

I would focus my time on the air stewardess I'd had my eye on since we left Atlanta

i would eat quesstionable herbs or berries. i wouldnt eat unclean meats etc........

i wd eat the fish..safest..actaully have just turned a veg..so i know hw to cook fish

um i wouldn't eat anything and just starve :).

Not a vegetarian...but, you rub something on your skin and wait for a reaction before you eat it. You smell things, if they smell bad, probably poisoness(sp), and if it's wandering around in daylight without a care in the world...poison.

Who knows if the fish could be diseased? I'd eat the Barrie's....don't animals live on plants and grass why cant i live
too bad because of my decision to be vegan i have to keep taking shots every week to stay healthy.

If you have never seen the berries, you don't know if they are poisonous) that is the reason you would test them. Also the kelp in the sea is very healthy. People pay big bucks for the stuff. I'm sure you could remain a vegetarian if one wanted.

Vegetarians and vegans would do what it takes to survive. They aren't idiots, you know!

id probably eat the fish and crab (as long as its cooked with a fire i make lol) but you never know because it might be diseased... so i suppose i'd eat the berries. if the fish werent diseased and i knew, yeah id eat anything i could get my hands on in an order to survive. And that sounds sorta hypocritical but the reason Im a vegetarian is because i hate the way the animals are kept and killed, i find it weird eating flesh of anything (i suppose thats because i was born a vegetarian and have been one all my life) and its healthier to be vegetarian (well not eat lots of meat lol). But if i really wanted to survive then id eat fish and crab and stuff- as well as berries and plants.

I am not a vegetaerian but you have a good point, Its amazing that a person would eat some berrys that may kill them instead of eating animals to survive. Me persononaly I would track the boar and see what it eats, find whats safe and then kill the boar eat it and the food that it feasts on.

This question comes up constantly and it's silly for a couple of reasons. Number one, nobody who has never been in a true life-or-death survival situation can say how they'd react. Number two, there's always an edible animal (your boar) in the scenario; if the mythical island is supporting a boar, it has edible plant life. Stalk the boar and see what he's eating. It'll be a lot easier to catch whatever that is than it would be to catch a fish or a boar with whatever random bits of luggage landed with you on that island.
