Animals are defenceless, is it fair to kill them for our tastebuds?!

Question: Animals don't want to *die*. They feel pain too.

It's possible for humans to be healthy without meat, so why not go vegetarian/vegan?

Loveage :-)

Heya

I totally agree with you. How does any human know what sort of pain an animal goes through. Obviously it does hurt them because of the struggle they put up or some of the noises they make. Not only am i against killing for tastebuds i also hate the stress these animals go through before being killed. Live exportation espeshially some of the conditions are appauling. Horse exportation is awful and on the increase. These are also long hauls as horse meat isnt ate in the uk so your talking about a 6-24 hour horse haul crammed with scared nervous ponies that often break legs or even die before they arrive. Its BS that people cannot live off vegetables and non meat products alone. People have been veggies for centurys. And with all the vitamins and protein shakes out now theyre is no reson its unhealthy.

Most people just seem to be so arogant when you try to talk to them about this sort of thing. They dont want to know. They are ignorant as to whats going on. I think they do know what animals feel and what pain they go through but just choose to ignore it. It annoys me no end. I hate myself that i used to hate meat. That was the way i was brought up though. You ate what was on your plate. Now im older i know that its wrong and atm im a lacto veggie (no fish eggs or meat) but im eventually aiming for vegan. Loveage =] xxxx

In the words of Clint Eastwood from the movie Unforgiven, "It aint about deservin"

Life can be cruel and unfair I would be the first to admit that.

At the same time it can be so much more. This is why I chose to be vegan because it spreads joy and not facilitate the suffering there is already so much of in this world.

"Practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty."

Being vegetarian or vegan is and can be very healthy. You do not need to eat dead animals to live nor be healthy.

I am 31 life time veg*n, and I rarely get sick, I run about 15 miles a week, and I swim about 3 hours per week.

And for all the people that think vegetarians and vegans are sick. - Next time you walk around the mall or walmart - look at all the fat people, and tell me that they healthy for eating meat! - go on lie to me, tell me that those fat people are strong and healthy because they are eating so many dead animals!

animals are defenseless? i dare you to approach a full grown bull and smack it in the face. have you ever tried to catch a rooster? they have spurs on their legs that are as sharp as raptor claws. their beaks hurt like the dickens too. sheep, they have horns and heads that are hard as rocks. if you get butted by a sheep it will hurt. new argument please. if you want me to tell you how dangerous a pig can be i can do that too. peace.

feel the same sometimes but cheese burgers just to good

Here is why I don't go veggie: I like the taste of meat too much! I love to have a burger (beef or turkey) with cheese. Or even a sandwich. Hmmm....

There are only a few vegetable products that I really like -- bell peppers, most green-colored beans, rice, spinach & carrots are my favs. Things like broccoli, cauliflower, and even pasta are on my list of "foods I will eat to be polite".

As for the first question -- evolutionists will tell you it is "fair" to kill to animals. Most people would say the same thing. Humans and animals are not equals -- we are clearly higher on the food chain and should be allowed to partake in the luxury if we like.

If someone claims that it is "unfair" for to kill a cow then shouldn't a cow pay me some sort of rent for me to provide it with food and shelter? And shouldn't deer pay me some sort of penance for going into my corn fields and eating away at MY livelihood. Those who say "Meat is Murder" should also say "Animals should be treated as Thieves" is their premise is animals are equals or near-equals.

hey again scottie! i have missed you :( . im tan and healthy so i dont know whats up with that. being pale has nothing to do with your diet. anywhoo, i always wonder why we feel its okay to eat cows and chickens and all that, but we keep our pets (dogs and cats) and would NEVER think of killing them for meat. and it owuld be straight wierd to eat a horse. so if "god" put animals here to eat, why did she give us the idea that some were meant to be pets and others were not. i think animals were put here for a purpose, but it was not to be eaten.

I'm a semi-vegetarian (I only eat fish) and I agree with people that say it is a fact of life. I just don't agree with the way the animals are farmed and killed. It's just barbaric!

I could effectively argue that carnivourous behavior is a means of population control and found everywhere in nature.

As much as I love my animals at home, they are naturally carnivores. I feed them meat.

Humans, like some animals evolved to be obnivorous. It is only recently due to the availability of different food stuffs that a vegitarian diet is possible for some.

I live in Canada, We have 6 months of winder, nothing grows. Likewise even in those 6 short growing months my climate is not well suited to legumes, nuts, plantains. Certinaly I do have wheat, however it isn't the same glutanous wheat used to make seiten. So 60 years about how do you suppose I would live a vegitarian lifestyle?

Likewise in rural communities, the availiablity of alternatives is just not there. When I do go away to remote areas, if I want to eat protien, I have to pack dried beans and lentils, or bring tofu as it is just not available.

I am sure animals don't want to die, however regardless of how responsible you think you are living you are killing animals. You drive, that leads to pollution, the oil needs to be drilled, loss of habitat. You import foods, again oil. You probably have leather, suade wool or other animal products in your wardrobe. You own a home, loss of natural habitat.

Although Ideally more people would eat a sustainable diet, it isn't always available or possible. Sometimes consumption of animals is not about taste it is about survival, and thus a vegitarian or vegan lifestyle isn't well suited for everybody.

I have been a vegan for almost 30 years (since I was weened) . It is a diet that works for me, however I do recognize this is my own ideology. It would not be fair of me to force it on, or guilt another into thinking the way I do, after all we do live in a free society.

Hi Scottie! :)

I personally don't think it is fair that that they have to live a miserable, un-natural, cruel life full of suffering and fear.

So i don't think they should be raised/killed for *our* taste buds, but for them when they are killed it is a blessing, because they are no longer suffering.

People wont go veggie/vegan because they "like" their meat and the majority do not care about the plight of the animals, most think they wont live without it.

your perfectly right and the choice to go veg is always the right one in my eyes. Animals kill animals too but could you see a tiger eating a carrot its whole life? Its sad how chaotic this world is but its all about the choices we make. Animals feel pain and that is a reason we should leave them alone..sure other animals will get to them but I honestly dont believe god gave us these brains to go outside..see an animal and say thats my dinner..we have brains so we can figure out what we can do so we dont end up using these beautiful creatures as handbags and hamburgers. Its unnesseseray. People wont go veg because theyr ignorant and wont do their research. Those who do and still eat it simply dont care and have no concern for what that animal went throught to get to your plate.

Have a good day..when I ask questions like this they get deleted hope urs doesnt!

Thats the way humans survive, get over it

If they dont like it they can go tell the guy at the top of the food chain..oh its us

no peace out for you. maybe a star but its unlikely.

I like Meat!

The desire to live is in every living thing , without it life would be impossible . That goes for both plants and animals .

Ya, they feel pain, but it's not the same kind of pain we feel. They don't think the same way we do, so it's really not as bad. And God put animals on this planet so we could eat them. I say if Jesus eats them, then we can too. :)

life is not fair.......deal with it

Because thats the way nature is. we are supposed to eat meat because thats the way we are made. meat tastes good and it gives you a lot of nutrients. every time i see a vegetarian they either look sick or pale. they just don't look healthy they always look tired

yes killing somthing is always bad but there are lots of nutrients and antioxidants in meat...in this day and age your correct we dont need meat....but its like trying to say we dont need cars so why do we drive...its just a luxury we can afford...there are others who are less fortunate and meat is considered a god send as its fatty and provides alot of energy...eg you give a starving family the option between 5 kilos of meats and 5 kilos of rice, they will take the meat

im not trying to sound bad its just..we eat meat...because we can...we do alot of things today....because we can....

EDIT we are also omnivorous for a reason...it is to help keep animal population under control...some what like lions do...granted we have taken advantage and do this unaturally(factory farming) but i guess it would be impractical if every1 had to catch or grow their own food, we just dont have time these days

I am sure that humans can be healthy w/o meat. But I can sleep easy with my choice of diet and I will defend it strongly.
When it comes down to it very few animals "want" to die but only humans obsess about it while alive.

all animals eat other animals- thats how they survive! anyway not eating meat is not healthy at all
