Defrosting tofu?!


Question: Is it Ok to defrost tofu on the 'defrost' setting on your microwave?
I'm thinking it would be alright, but I'm not sure!

No, it won't work because the outside will start to cook while the inside will still be frozen. Take it from me, I've tried it. If you do try to defrost in the micro, at least partially thaw it on the counter or in the sink.

I didn't know you could freeze tofu. But if you did, I'm guessing you should defrost it the way you would anything else. Unopened, place the tofu in a bowl of water and stick it in the fridge and it should defrost completely after about a day.

Yeah, I think that would be okay. You do know that freezing tofu greatly effects its texture. I hope that the tofu was drained before freezing, otherwise things might be grim.

There isn't a way to defrost tofu in the microwave without cooking it.

You can use warm water, but then be sure to press it.

Tofu doesn't like freezing very much. It changes the nature of the proteins in it and becomes spongy. I would toss it and get fresh tofu.
