Why is omnivore considered normal and not vegan?!
All the health issues coulde be reduced to a minimum.
From the Christian religion, men were created as vegans. Men (and animals) became omnivore after sin...
All scientific studies show that vegans live healthier and longer.
So why are vegans considered outsiders and omnivores mainstream?
Answers: Vegan lifestyle is healthy, protects the environment, saves billions of lives...

I think because of a misuse of words. By normal I think they mean usual as omnivores are the huge majority of the population.
Then again if you phrase it, "Being an omnivore is the norm in the U.S." it does make sense as 98% of the population is omnivore.
"Normal" is a societal construct. There is no "normal" in nature. In fact, the theory of evolution is predicated upon the fact that species that change survive better than ones that remain stagnant.
Within society, the mainstream always feels threatened by the outliers. In Western culture, specifically, eating is close to religion, so challenging one's eating patterns is nearly tantamount to challenging their belief in God.
Plus, there are enough vegans out there who come off as insufferable jerks to ruin it for all of them.
It is what 90% of us were brought up with.
Even if God created Adam as a vegan, and that is a really big if. He does not mind men killing animals. In fact he used to demand animal sacrifices. Not sure of the exact scriptural reason that cause Jews to stop preforming them.
Because human are naturally omnivores. Going vegan isn't genetic, or hereditary. It's a conscious choice. You shouldn't believe all that you hear from religion. If the religious groups had it their way, the Earth would still be flat, & women would be home bare foot & pregnant. How does being vegan save billions of lives? Are you referring to animals? If so, they are a source of food. Eating meet provides a valuable source of protein. Which allow out brain to grow & develop. If our ancestors were vegans, we wouldn't have evolved to be the intelligent & ionvative humans we are now.
'Adam T' makes a rare legitimate point at first, then ruins it by being rude. Humans can choose to be vegan/vegetarian. But it is possible to live on an omnivorous diet.
The most important thing is living a *healthy* diet.
I'm vegetarian and I know that 'we' are not very accepted in society.
It's a shame, but maybe in time, things will change for the better.
Best wishes
scottie :-)
Outside of the question itself, your first five lines are wrong already. Health, environment and saving lives MAY be a consequence of a vegan lifestyle but they can also be the benefits from other diets and lifestyles. You made some very sweeping claims that are just wrong. And you said "... don't give me that..." which implies that you are unwilling to listen to answers which do not agree with your own premises. So then, it would quite pointless to give you any direct answers if your point is to argue.
To comment on the last part of this "question" : omni mainstream, vegan outsiders, consider the statistical study in the US for example that shows, only 2-3% of the population is vegetarian ( like me) and of that number, only 1% is vegan. I don't how you define mainstream and "outsider" but from those figures it seems quite obvious why.
Humans are omnivore's becuase of the way we evolved. Our ancestors once lived in the tree's, we feasted on fruit, insects, small animals ect.
When we moved out of the trees we started to eat more and more meat, we soon started to hunt and were able to develop more and more untill we became what we know today.
Essentually meat has been consumed since the dawn of man and has helped our soceity to become the way it is today, and if you are going to claim about scientific studies showing vegan lifestlyes are the healthiest option, please give a link were we can evaluate the research for ourselves.
If you visit different countries, you will see different ideas about it all. In some countries being 100% vegetarian (vegan) is no big deal and is quite common -- but in other countries, it's nearly unheard of.
As drfaustas pointed out, "normal" is a societal construct. And I would have given that answer a thumbs up had s/he not ruined it with the little insult.
There's also a groupthink in many societies, and a tendency to normalize behaviors by convincing others it's okay.
But you'll be happy to know that veganism is edging into the mainstream, as more people are interested in at least reducing the animal products they consume. People are becoming aware of how an animal ends up on their plates, and they're not very happy about the process. So they're eating less meat and/or looking for less cruelly produced meat. It's not ideal, but it's better than nothing.
I couldn't let this question pass without adding the obvious comment:
Omnivore is considered normal, simply because most people are omnivore.
Most people are omnivore because it is easier.
(Of course, when diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol lowering drugs and heart disease come along, "easier" may seem less important.)
first of all, its all about evolution and science, thats why are teeth are the way they are, we have those sharp ones specifically for meat.
besides if you go vegan you grow vaginas
Because they chose to call themselves something different than "omnivores" and started calling themselves "vegans"... I mean seriously what's changed? and why couldn't the first vegan call themself something that has a CATCHY name... the letter V to me is dark...
What do virtually ALL herbivores have in common?
They are HUGE!
Elephants, cows, hippos, giraffes, buffalo, etc... all of them must eat nearly constantly too! Ever watch a goat for a while? It doesn't stop eating, does it? Why? Because plant matter is generally very low in protein and other essential nutrients. These animals have to eat ALOT of grasses and leaves to get the protein they need. They need large stomachs to hold all this plant matter. They need large bodies to carry around the large stomachs.
Carnivores, and some omnivores, like us, have small stomachs. We can only hold about 4 pints in our stomachs...max. This is because we are designed to eat things high in protein...like meats. We also have gall bladders to process the fats and lipids. Our dental structure is designed to slice meat AND to chew soft plant tissues.
To suggest that we are not omnivorous is to ignore nature's design.
EDIT: Yeah, you're probably right. What the hell was God thinking?
Evolution, son. Do you think we as a species would be here now if our earliest ancestors were vegan? If they hugged animals instead of killing them for survival? Doubtful. I'm sure corn stalks and tree bark would've worked just as well for those Plains Indians in winter as did animal skins.
