What can I make with tomatoes that I can sell at the Farmers Market?!

Question: Its looks like mine and my childrens garden will have an over abundance of tomatoes, Jalepeno, Habenero, cayenne, and bell peppers this year. I would like to make something that We can sell at our local farmers market or to neighbors so that my children will have extra spending money over the summer. I thinking something that can be canned or dried. Thanks for the help!

Time for salsa making! You have all the tomatoes to puree, and you can have different varieties- mild to spicy to fire hot! You should give your line a name, and maybe make-up a sticker with your catchy cute veggie stand name on it and have a space to write in the specific item and a price, I think that would be very catchy. At the markets people will be looking for your tasty and cute labeled goods and then they'll tell others and before you know it you'll have sold out!
This is an optimistic version of things, but I really do think you could make good salsa and market it by word of mouth. especially if it's a small community. Your kids may end up with a few hundred bucks each at the end!

Sounds like you can make a really cool salsa - and what's great is, it keeps well and is easy to make and transport. Make mild, medium and hot salsa and maybe have a gimmick - sell them with home-made baked tortilla chips or something.

You can also make your own tomato-based pasta sauces, with gourmet flavors - spicy Jalapeno sauce, bell pepper and onion, mushroom and garlic, etc.

Good luck and have fun :)

How about making Home made Salsa (you can, can it by the way)....that is what i did last year!...and String up some of your cayenne peppers to sell (wear rubber gloves when you do this and all it takes is some good thread(quilting thread and needle)...many folks like them for cooking or for just the looks of them hanging in the kitchen.
hope this helps you! and good luck!

Sometimes perfectly fresh homegrown tomatoes bring a hefty price, even at farmers markets. You might get more for them than if you cooked them down into something else. Bring some fresh ones to the market as well.

Salsa is the obvious choice, but there are so many gourmet salsas out there now that the market is oversaturated. Neighbors would buy it out of politeness, but it might move slowly at a farmers market.

I'd go for gourmet pasta sauce, with premium ingredients. You could make a habanero arrabiata (spicy tomato sauce for pasta). You could also do a spicy, chunky bruscetta topping.

Bruschetta.

I would beg you to sell the tomatoes fresh. I would die to get my hands on some decent tomatoes, not the mealy flavorless ones at the supermarket. Of course, I don't live in your area, but there are probably others that think like me around you.

Salsa is good. Yeah, there are a lot of salsas on the market, but people already at a farmer's market might just buy the local brand.

Pasta sauce is also good.
