I think the quintessential book for you would be "Becoming Vegan: The Complete Guide to Adopting a Healthy Plant-Based Diet" by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Molina. It's got everything you need and more. Also a good one to check out would be the Idiot's Guide to Vegan Living.

For philosophy or ethics grab a copy of "Vegan: The New Ethics of Eating" by Eric Marcus or take a look at this list of vegan books: http://www.soystache.com/veganbooks.htm

aww thanks. :D

The Vegan Sourcebook is great. Written by Joanne Stepaniak, of "The Uncheese Cookbook" fame, it covers everything: history, ethics, health, environment, compassionate consumerism, etc. And she never seems "Vegan-er than thou." It's not preachy, and it's not dumbed down and spoon fed.

Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin wrote a best selling, no nonsense book called Skinny Bxxch and they just followed it up with another cook book for vegans Skinny Bxxch in the Kitch. Their book focuses on personal choice and personal health and a well researched expose documenting the 'shady' business surrounding the food industry. Both of them are targeted to teens and young people.
Offensive language might be an issue however.

There is Vegan Freak. Try that. I bet you could get it at Barns and Nobles or Boarders.

i ditto what apres vous says - 'Becoming Vegan' by Davis and Melina is where i started. I ordered it from the vegan society online shop when i was getting "the animal free shopper" which I can highly recommend also by the way - it is the bible for most uk vegans.

I'm a big fan of- " Vegan- The New Ethics of Eating"
Most librarys have it- it's a good read. :)
