Question: Do new vegetarians have some kind of meat withdrawal symptoms?

Answers: Do new vegetarians have some kind of meat withdrawal symptoms?

Sounds like you are experiencing a bit of a hypoglycemic reaction which probably means that you need some almonds in your pocket to be nibbled on at will for a quick protein fix. Quitting an omnivorous diet 'cold turkey' -- so to speak -- in order to go vegetarian should not produce the results you are experiencing unless you have not taken into account that you still need a balanced diet. Not just "junk food" and empty calories. Whole grains are important. Tofu, Seitan and Tempeh, Beans, Peas and Legumes and Veggies -- lots of Veggies and Fresh Fruit, Nuts and Seeds. Hemp Milk, Soy Milk, Rice Milk, Almond Milk all have their place along with good breakfast choices like Nature's Path Cereals etc. And yes, there are faux "meats" available in the Supermarkets and Health Food stores Lightlife, Gimme Lean, Yves, Tofurky just to name a few
Judy Krizmanic wrote a book years ago called Teens Guide To Going Vegetarian. She was really clear about the need for balance in your diet: proteins - yes, carbohydrates and fats too.
Laurel's Kitchen has been the Fanny Farmer of vegetarian cookbooks since it was first published in 1976 and it is still great. It has a nutrition compendium in the back of it so that you can be sure that you are eating the right things for optimum health.
You have begun a great adventure but you need to do your due diligence and be sure that your diet is complete and not based on whimsy or food fads. Good Luck!

I quit cold turkey and I didn't have withdrawal. I missed it for a couple of weeks and after that I just forgot about it.

I'm not sure, but I'm just using logic here;

I doubt that there are any really withdrawal symptoms, maybe getting sick due to lack of protein, or massive cravings...but like I said, I don't think I've heard of withdrawal symptoms.

Generally speaking, your body is probably craving fat. Have some peanut butter, some cheese or an avocado.

It sounds like you might be eating a lot of low-calorie foods like salads / veggies and not enough high-calorie foods. A healthy vegetarian diet includes a variety of fruits, veggies, beans, nuts, and grains. You could also eat some faux meats.. here's a list: http://www.vegcooking.com/guide-favs.asp

Good luck!

you need to take vitamins to replace what you're missing in meat.

you need protein, and b vitamins.

I never had meat withdrawals.
It sounds like your not getting enough calories in your diet.

Sure did, every time I saw a cow out in the field I wanted to run up and bite into it LOL Yucky just kidding. I never missed eathign meat.
