Do peanuts contain complete protein?!


Question: i think peanut butter does, right? but thats not the same as peanuts, so i was wondering, do you know if peanuts in themelves have complete proteins? as far as boiled peanuts or whatnot?

im trying to go towards more of a no meat diet, and want to make sure im not neglecting my protein needs -

No. Peanuts and peanut butter are considered incomplete proteins but if you eat a varied diet with enough calories you will be getting enough protein. It's not necessary to combine proteins anymore to get a complete protein. This theory was debunked by the American Dietetic Association. Seriously, you'll be fine.

Eggs have complete proteing but nuts do not. Beans are pretty good but not as good as eggs. Many vegetarians eat eggs and dairy.

Veggie burgers have lots of protein. Same with Yves meatless deli slices.

Apres Vous is right- complete protein is a non-issue. Peanuts and peanut butter (if it's natural and not loaded with sugars) are both good sources of protein.

I believe when combined with whole wheat it is a complete protein.

Hemp seed though is complete protein all by itself and sometimes I sprinkle the seeds on top of my peanut butter.

Make sure you get fresh organic ground peanut butter without any sugar salt or additives. My Co-op has a machine and it is the best peanut butter I have ever tasted. it is so much different than pre-ground.

Plus you can bring your own container and wash and use it over and over again making it the most environmentally friendly choice you can make. It is also about as cheap or cheaper than regular peanut butters.

No, although an excellent source of protein (quantitatively), it is somewhat deficient in the amino acids methionine and cysteine. These amino acids are present in all grains, and are especially abundant in wheat.
But like the first person said, it's not something you should worry about as long as you aren't living on peanuts alone (or bread alone, or any other food product on its own). A balanced diet will automatically give you a balanced mix of all amino acids.
Peanuts are second only to soybeans in the total protein content.

if you enjoy cooking try quinoa (keen-wah) it is a complete protein and very easy to make. Try it with some curry spice but add it at the end when its done cooking. It contains all 8 essential amino acids.

I get my protein from peanut butter and soy milk. Getting it from two sources insures your getting all the essential protien you need.

NO Peanuts is a Legume. In that family the highest protein is Chickpeas.
That truly is much easier than you think.
100mg. of Romaine Lettuce (about 1 head or Lb.) has as much protein at the same amount of Sirloin steak(Beef) along with the prefect balance of Fat, & Carbs.
