Yes I did know! Yummy ground up animal cartilage! Lollies have gelatin in them too as do (some) cheesecakes and m not giving those up!

I didn't know until I had been vegetarian for about 6 months and yes I was pretty disgusted when I found out

i know ewww

I thought all you idiots knew this already. I don't eat jello, instead, try agar-agar, which can be found in Asian stores. Its gelatin made from seaweed, and its delicious, particularly the almond flavor, when set, diced and mixed with lychee nuts or mandarin orange sections.

That's sickening.
They don't even tell us the "real" story.

it is common knowledge ,,,, it is basically bones extract..

but I am not going to stop eating it .

gelatin is formed when collagen (connective tissue) is cooked in a moist environment. it's not gross. if you kill an animal for food, shouldn't you use all of the animal. Isn't it wasteful and disrespectful to just throw some of it away?
Gelatin is a lot less gross than most of the junk that most of you eat everyday. get over it

I agree with chefmatt007 that if animals are going to be used for food EVERYTHING should be used. This includes the bones and connective tissues in your jellos and candies and skin for clothes and what not. Something you may also be interested in, the majority of white granulated sugars sold in stores and used in food or coffee is filtered through charcoals made from livestock bones. Mm mm!

so is chewing gum...

yep, we know.... there is an alternative non animal product called agar.
