Does the making of soy hurt animals?!

Question: I had someone give me an intriguing answer to one of my questions yesterday, saying "Imagine how many animals are hurt by the process of making soy milk, or soy"...really? Is that true? Because he didn't back up that claim...if someone has something to back that up with please let me know.

Yes there may be *some* suffering involved. Every thing we ALL do effects the environment. From switching on our lights to making a sandwich. The idea of vegetarianism and veganism is to *minimize* when ever possible our contributions to harm. Unfortunately we can't go outside and photosynthesis, we have to eat some thing. But there is a large difference between the amount of cruelty involved in harvesting vegetables and killing an animal. You simply cannot compare the violent brutal slaughter of a sentient animal with the harvesting of fruit or vegetables. Veganism & vegetarianism is about minimising the harm we do. Although soy isn't cruelty free, it is much more humane than dairy.

I think he may have been facetious, but if not I'd be intrigued to know how it does.

Soy is made from Soy beans and has nothing to do with Cows or their milk. There is no harm done. Soy beans are a crop, not a product of live animals.

He was just being stupid, and/or trying to trick you. Looks like it works. Soy is a plant. There are no animals involved.

The only way the production of soy products--soy is a PLANT, remember--can possibly hurt animals is if any are harmed in its harvesting. But a hell of a lot of soy goes to feed animals people eat--over 70 percent of the staple crops grown in this country is for animals who are turned into food. So eating animals not only hurts the ones you are eating, but those accidentally killed in the harvesting.

As many of us point out until our fingers are sore from the typing, it's about reducing as much as possible animal exploitation from our lives.

The making of soy doesn't hurt animals but the harvesting kills MANY. The harvesting of any crop kills many animals but it can't be avoided.

I make soy milk in my kitchen . the only way an animal gets hurt is if I step on the cats tail by accident...
