What is your best comeback to someone who rudely insults you simply for being a Vegetarian / Vegan?!
I fight back. My personal favorite is: "Actually, why don't you go out and eat as many hamburgers as possible. That way you will die faster! The world will be a better place with less people like yourself. So please, go and eat some more hamburgers!"
Answers: Some people just like to insult others simply because they are Vegetarian or Vegan. Has this ever happened to you? It has to me many times. Do you just let it slide or do you "fight back".

ok i get insulted evert day just for bein a vegan. but the people that do the insulting is fat not to be mean or anything I am SLIM and when they say "GO EAT SOME BURGERS!!" i say " GO EAT A SALAD " its really funny their all like
OMB :O
I've gotten rudely insulted more from vegetarians and vegans because I eat meat than I've ever seen or heard of anyone be rude to a vegetarian.
yes, it has happened to me, and it's very frustrating, and when people say it to me, i usually defend myself. but i just tell people, "it's my choice to eat what i want, i'm not forcing you to be a vegetarian, so don't force me to not be one."
what i have learned is that people get very defensive so stray away from things like "your a murderer". it doesn't turn out too good"
if you go on the vegan websites, they give you a lot of good comebacks to say when people say things like "animals were made to be eaten." haha, they come in handy.
Just tell the 'insulter" to "SHUT UP"
Say, "don't knock it till you try it".
Just say "Please respect my beliefs and I'll respect yours." If that doesn't work say "I don't want to make my body a grave yard for decaying animals."
I guess I've never had that happen. My favorite response to a dumb comment is to look puzzled and then not respond at all. You will make the person feel really stupid without saying a word.
Never been insulted yet- I guess there are no chances.. no wait my cousin said vegans are without souls. Whatever that meant- but I think he was just kidding. Some people ask me if I'm "one of those crazy animal rights gals" but- no rude comments, I actually think of them all as compliments. They include vegan- and me- so that's all I hear- or all I choose to hear.
Ignore the insults, people respect strength and defending yourself is a sign of weakness.
Turn it around and say
" Oh my god, your a meat eater? What a FREAK! I mean, who eats decaying animals these days?!"
I have been vegetarian for almost 15 years, and unfortunately have received a lot of rude comments from people. I never harrass people for eating meat and don't make a big issue of me being vegetarian, so I'm guessing they somehow feel threatened by my choice.
I tend to respond the way Sarrah does- that seems to work best. But if someone keeps making rude remarks and demanding to know why I'm vegetarian, telling them I don't eat the flesh and piss of animals seems to work.
I usually just give them a weird look like they are an idiot and change the subject. They don't seem to like it and they usually shutup about it.
we non vegans get called far worse...
a world would be better off without people that eat hamburgers? I guess you shouldn't complain about what people say to you if you're going to say things like that.
The truth hurts sometimes, sorry. I'm supportive of vegans, but not when they say things like that
edit: geee, how did I know I would get a bunch of thumbs down?
well don't you think maybe non vegans get attacked by vegans for no reason? it goes both ways... that's just the way it is. I know I won't get support here because I'm in the vegan section, but that's ok...
oh and to emilylik, I don't know where you buy your groceries that you see them selling decaying meat, but I wouldn't recommend buying anything from there, the meat I buy is usually fresh and not rotting. And FYI, vegetables decay too.
In many years of being vegetarian, and now vegan, I've never met any one who insulted me for it.
The only place I've encountered abuse is from a small number of meat-eaters on this forum - never met a nutjob like that in real life
In my experience most people couldn't care less what you're eating as long as they've got what they want to eat. They'll respect your choices as long as you respect theirs.
yes i have, like people who first find out im a vegetarian there like "Then are you a hippie or something" and im prolly the exact opposite, im very girly and cutsy, so i dont no why they would just think that just because im a vegetarian!
I say "the only people who complain about someone who cares enough to stand up and do something about injustice are people who aren't doing anything for anybody but themselves."
And it's TRUE.
If someone is curious about it than I am glad to talk to them about it.
But if someone is rude I have learned to ignore it. There is no use talking to them. You are not going to say anything that is going to all of a sudden enlighten an ignorant person. Arguing will only make you upset and is that person really worth ruining your mood?
Don’t give them that power.
People in the real world are generally nicer because they can't hide behind a computer screen and insult you. Some times veganism confuses or concerns them (especially family). But I haven't been insulted so I haven't had to use any come backs. The only place I have encountered rudeness is here on yahoo. I never realized how much animosity there is against us.
