How do I have a vegetarian diet but still get protein ?!
Answers: **Also what do i do when my family has like chicken for supper?**
There are a TON of good protein sources besides meat. Primary ones for vegetarians are legumes (beans and lentils), whole grains, and soy protein. Also remember that people ned far, far less protein than is in the typical American diet. Meat eaters in this country really have far too much of it, so don't feel like you need to completely make up for the massive amount you'll be missing out on when you stop eating a diet that is mostly animal flesh.
Being the only vegetarian in a non-veg family is difficult, so I would recommend either asking your family to cook something special for you, or making yourself a little main dish with vegetarian protein and bringing it to the table. If you are a good cook and you do a good job, maybe you'll get your family cooking more vegetarian food! You can fill yourself up on sides, but that gets old quick and isn't very nutritious.
If your family is having something that involves ground beef, ask them to substituted textured vegetable protein. You can also ask them to cook with other meat substitutes if they refuse to just have a normal vegetarian dish that's not an imitation of something with meat.
every veggie contains protein(including shiitake mushrooms) - plus if you are going vegetarian you should be fine. You still have eggs- which contain a lot, and also milk and cheese.
Other good staples for protein are tempeh (19-23 grams) tofu, beans, legumes, nuts, seeds.
As for your family, all you can do- is to pass on the chicken, no problem.
Good Luck!
You can get quorn fillets that are just like chichen fillets so you can eat with the rest of the family - just maje sure you have vegetarian gravy or sauce with it.
You can het a vaietu og quorn products (mince sausagesetc)
soy products and tofu are protein and are often reformed to be like meat
Lentil, beans and chick peas are all good sources of protein,
Also nuts - so have a nut roast occasionally.
Cheese, eggs and other diary products are all contain protein too.
you can get protien, almonds, peanuts,(peanut butter counts) cashews, yogurt, cheese, eggs, soy milk, soy beans, beans, and tofu.(if you like it. I hate it personally) I do like vegetarian chicken though, which has quite a lot of protein.
Also be sure you get a lot of omega fatty acids. If you like pancakes you should add two teaspoons of flaxseed oil to the pancake or waffle mix. You can add it to cake mix too.
dats simple u go have ur vegeterian diet n get egg so by havin egg along wiyh ur vegeterian foods u'll satisfy ur diet
seems like you already got some good answers on the protein part of your question. As for what to eat when your family eats meat, next time your mom takes a trip to the store, go with her and check out the vegetarian section of the frozen foods isle. There are lots of veggie options there like veggie bugers and veggie chicken nuggets that you can just pop in the microvave or grill real quick as a substitute for the meat your family is eating.
If your family is supportive of you being a vegetarian and will adjust meals for you, that's great! As for me, if I wanted anything other than what my mom cooked for the family I had to make it myself. So, dont be surprised if your mom doesn't want to spend extra time preparing special meals for you. It's never a bad time to learn how to be independent ;)
Goodness me, not this question AGAIN:

If your family is eating chicken for supper, just eat whatever else is on the plate. You can't "just" be having chicken surely. Most chicken dishes also come with potatoes, vegetables, salad or pasta.
Or make your own alternative arrangements - a veggie burger or vegetable lasagne brought for you or made by you, instead of the chicken.
.
Eat nutmeat.
tofu has a lot of protein.

As long as you eat enough calories, and they're not from junk food, you'll be getting more than enough protein.
When you eat with your family, just ask whoever cooks to make the sides vegetarian. You can cook some tofu, tempeh, a good analogue and have that with the sides while the rest of your family has their chicken and the sides. Even better, help cook the sides to make things easier for your parents.
Eat food. It has protein in it.
Honestly, vegetarians are not lacking protein. This question comes up constantly and it's a little bit ridiculous. There's protein everywhere. You don't need as much as you think. If you're eating enough calories to meet your energy needs and you're not trying to live on junk food, you're getting enough. It's not that complicated.
If your family is eating chicken, just don't eat it. Eat the vegetarian part of the meal. Or get some Boca chicken patties and make one for yourself. Or cook your own meal.
