Is too much soy milk bad for you?!
Answers: I was wondering, I have a mild mnilk allergy, so I use soy milk - actually Silk Milk is the name of the brand I use...anyway, I was told there is something called carageenan in it. I have nt had any problems with it - then again, I don't know what symptoms I am looking for. I drink about a gallon a week. IS this actually bad for me? Of you know about this carageenan, I'd appreciate an answer. Thanks ahead of time!
Soy is not bad for anyone who doesn't have an allergy. The thing about soy raising estrogen is a myth and a fad with no basis in fact. I'm married to a registered dietitian and I can say with absolute certainty that dietitians aren't doing anything to warn about the so-called dangers of soy (unless a patient is allergic).
Caragenan is a sugar-like compound made from seaweed.

I'm not sure what you mean by "too much" but a diet with a variety of foods is generally better than limiting yourself to eating only a few different foods; you might miss certain nutrients if your diet lacks variety.
Soy milk is milk in name only. There are no soy breasts.Your milk allergy is not a consideration. Soy milk does however contain plant estrogen, so if you start to grow breasts(just kidding), perhaps you should slow consumption. There is a possibility that if the studies that indicated that hormone therapy could lead to increased risk of breast cancer have any validity, soy estrogen could have a detrimental effect on one's overall health.
too much of anything even water is bad for you
just try to shrink the amount you drink a week
good luck
Soy milk is a name given to a milk-like beverage made from soy beans (as rice milk is from rice and almond milk is from almonds). There's no lactose in it, making it suitable for those who do not wish to consume animal milks for one reason or another. The only thing you might worry about is if something is made on shared machinery, but if your allergy is mild, it may not affect you.
Carrageenan is a type of seaweed and is used as a thickener for many vegetarian foods. I've heard rumors that it may cause problems, but I haven't had any ill effects from eating foods with carrageenan.
A gallon a week sounds a little excessive. You may want to slow your consumption a bit. After all, too much of anything is bad for you. However, if you're not having problems with it, it's probably safe to consume in moderate amounts.
