What foods can't vegetarians eat? What are foods we can't eat that aren't as obvious as meat?!
I just found out that gelatin is a "no-no," which means no jello, marshmellows, Lucky Charms, Skittles!. I want to know if there are any other foods like this that aren't as obvious that we can't eat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You are absolutely right about geletin being non vegi - vegetarians will not eat anything that an animal has to be killed to produce and geletine is using parts of dead animals - the bits you dont even want to think about!.
There are substitutes for geletine

You can eat gelatin if you're a vegetarian!.
A Vegetarian only does not eat meat!. So no chicken, beef, pork, fish, or any other living being that wasn't a plant, seed, fruit, or vegetable!.
You're confusing it with Veganism!. Vegans don't eat anything with any sort of animal byproduct, which would include gelatin, gummi bears/worms, eggs, milk, cheese, broth, etc!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Different "degrees" of vegetarians!. Some eat nothing that would kill an animal but will eat dairy products and eggs!. Others eat nothing at all pertaining to animals!. This probably eliminates most packaged foods because of seasonings like butter, fat, etc!. Your best bet for shopping would be the produce isle and the bulk nuts and grain isle at your organic supermarket!. The also would have a few packaged items that were vegan/vegetarian!. Just read the labels well!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Even if you eat dairy products, you might want to avoid cheese because one of the ingredients is rennet from a cow's stomach!.
It's really up to you though, depending on your reasons for being a vegetarian and how much of a purist you want to be!. Provided you understand nutrition and eat a balanced diet, any reduction in animal protein is an improvement!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
