Why do people think vegetarian diets don't have enough protien?!
If you are a person who believes they do not have enough protein, can you show me scientific evidence of that!? For example: Medical Journal, etc!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
Anyone who tells you that a vegetarian diet doesn't have enough protein is making an inaccurate statement!. On the other hand, a poorly balanced diet of a vegetarian (or anyone) may not have enough protein!.
My mother has been a vegetarian for all of her life and I'm a vegan!. We are healthy, trim and have plenty of energy!. There are more factors involved with total health than just diet or just protein!. If anything, most persons in the USA eat too much protein!.
No one is going to be able to show you any medical journal which says that vegetarian diets don't have enough protein!. They may be able to show you comments which state that 'some' vegetarians have poor oral intake of nutrients including protein, but that could be said of some meat eaters too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because they don't have enough protein or (the right kind of) fats!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
because they're uneducated and ignorantWww@FoodAQ@Com
Vegetarians DO get enough protein!. I have never seen protein deficiency in the western world!. Oh, and I am not suffering from hair loss so I guess I am getting protein from somewhere!
Veggie protein sources- soya milk, tofu, nuts & seeds!.
The answerer who says we don't get the right fats is wrong!. Never heard such nonsense in my life!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think its more perception of the vegetarians and vegans themselves!.
Now I understand fully what I am about to say sounds "stereotypical!." And I know for a fact that not all vegans/vegetarians are this way!. But the ones that we generally see on television and so on do look pale and weaker, and some even look yellowish!.
This isn't a normal color, and weak and pale suggests sickness or nutrient deficiency!. And since we are always taught that protein for most people comes from meat, and that protein is a major component in muscle-building, we assume that vegetarians and vegans must not be getting enough protein!.
But again I reiterate that is only the perception!. I have met some real life vegetarians and most look very healthy; do not look pale or weak!. But image can be a powerful thing, and so the assumption is that they don't get enough protein!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

This is not about getting or not getting enough protien!.
It is about the huge volume of food a vegetarian would need to eat to get enough protien!.
Now if you are vegan the amount of soy, nuts, etc!. that you would have to eat would be highly imrpactical!.
For vegetarains it is not as bad because they can get a ton of protien from dairy!.
That is all there is to it!. It is about the high volume and I do not know about you but I would not be thrilled with eating that huge amount of tofu!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because the only source of protein they know of is meat (and legumes, from the food pyramid - but maybe they think legumes are a fairy tale and nobody actually eats them!?!?!?)!.
Im guessing non-veggos assume that because *they* don't know any other protein sources, we mustn't either!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

this is why vegetarians are so weak and thin!.!. they don't get enough MEAT!. meat is essential for fitness!. can you live off of salads!? uh no!. thats proof enough!. you would have to eat like 10 lbs of salad to get enough protein in 3 ounces of meat!. think about it!. vegetarians are dumb!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Good question!.
I'm sick of people saying stuff like that to me ><
They're just meat-loving addicts who don't realize that meat isn't doing any good for you!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hi,
I am a vegetarian since birth an don not feel the need to change over to non-vegetarianism!.
I eat pulses and legumes every day!.!.!.there is such a wide variety of them!.
You can eat soya !.!.!.!.!.!.!.gives 52gm!. protein per 100 gm!. of soya!.
When combined well with spices vegetarian food tastes superb!.
Most people who eat non-veg food everyday may not have the knowhow of methods of cooking pulses and legumes and therefore do not like what they cook and therefore do not know the lovely tastes!.
It is people like this who say that veg diets don't have protein as they don't eat the protein foods and hence suffer from protein deficiencies!.
Look around you!.!.!.!.!.!.Indians from India have intelligent children, they are making money in all the countries of the world using their brains!.And a lot of them are vegetarians!.
Check out their hair, etc!.They don't seem to be deficient in any way!. They are tall and healthy!.
A vegetarian Indian meal must consist of pulses or legumes!.
Vegetables give a lot of vitamins and minerals!. They give the fat which is healthier than animal fat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's thanks to ignorant people - David L is a prime example - that misconceptions about veg*n nutrition develop and are spread about!.
Such individuals don't cite sources of their "information" quite simply because there is no reliable evidence to support their claims!.
Furthermore, they base their perception of veg*nism on "this guy I knew who used to be veg, but he got all sick and anemic, so his doctor told him to eat 6 steaks a week!." It seems that every veg*n they "know" (which is usually only the one dude they met in high-school) is protein deficcient and sickly!.
Little do they know that all veg*ns do not walk about with blinking neon "VEGETARIAN" signs on their foreheads!.!.!. there are thousands of us happy, healthy, "normal" veg*ns getting plenty of protein, and we're so gosh-darned normal that we blend-in quite nicely with the rest of the population!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It is harder for people on vegetarian diets to get everything they need!. vegetarians have to eat a variety of things to make sure that they are getting enough of everything they need!. Whereas, you could live off of beef if you wanted to!. And yes, many vegetarians do lack protein because they are uneducated about how to be healthy about it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
YES! i hate that!.
I think it's just an excuse to do something they know is bad for them and the planet!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because some vegetarian diets actually don't have enough protein!. A person's diet is his/her own and a vegetarian can easily fall into bad eating habits as anybody else!. Just because somebody is a vegetarian, it doesn't mean that he/she is automatically healthy!. Try eating a "vegetarian diet" of only boiled rice and water and see how healthy you are after six months!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
