Yeah, it does seem to be a pain sometimes to get enough protein as a vegan!. I mean, almonds and walnuts are great snacks but get boring after a while!.
Soy is definitely a major way to go!. You can get it in the form of imitation meat, which comes in all the forms meat does (sandwich meat, nuggets, patties, etc!.) or tofu, which can be cooked or prepared a number of ways!. It's good when prepared correctly, and although some eat it raw I think that's fairly gross!.
Other protein sources include gluten and chickpeas!. I eat a lot of hommus (I prefer plain, but there are many flavours) and occasionally make seitan, which is a good gluten-based meat substitute that can also be used for a lot of things!. In addition, there are very small amounts of protein in bread and other plant proteins, although it wouldn't be suggested to subsist on this!.
Something else I may note is that the average American actually gets too much protein, and that lower amounts of protein are often healthier!. Other nutrients you may need to worry about are vitamin B12 (it's added to rice milk among other things, and takes a while to run out), calcium (in almonds and added to milk substitutes), and iron (leafy greens and elsewhere)!.
As for your brother!.!.!. Well convince your parents that you don't have to eat the same thing, and that your brother is a brat :-PWww@FoodAQ@Com

whey and soy and nuts are pretty much the only vegan protein sources sept for maybe supplementsWww@FoodAQ@Com
eat eggs and peanut butter!Www@FoodAQ@Com
*sigh* the protein myth rears its ugly head AGAIN!.
Look, as long as you eat a variety of foods--which means learning to like beans, as they're also great sources of calcium and iron--and you get enough calories, you should be fine!. Nuts are also a great source of protein, but you might want to mix them in a grain pilaf so you get accustomed to eating them!. Do you like peanut butter or almond butter!? That's as good as eating nuts!
Go to www!.vrg!.org for nutritional information!.
And I have to wonder why your parents haven't cracked down on your brother!. He doesn't have to be a vegetarian, but he has to eat more than just chicken and fish sticks or he's going to get sick! You should not have to eat animal flesh because your brother is (sorry) a spoiled brat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
