Answers:
The cows are hung up by their back legs and bled to death!. The cows are supposed to be unconscious as a result of stunning by a mechanical blow to the head!. This procedure is very imprecise!. The result of poor stunning is conscious animals hanging upside down, kicking and struggling, while a slaughterhouse worker makes another attempt to render them unconscious!. Eventually, the animals are "stuck" in the throat with a knife, and blood gushes from their bodies whether or not they are unconscious!.

It's pretty horrible just to think about it!.

Well here is an informative video: www!.meat!.org

To summarize it though they live a horrible existence, are suspended in mid-air and have their throats slit with no pain-killers!.

Note: Whether or not PETA took part in any actions that you see as unethical or hypocritical it does not change the fact that these are 100 percent truths!. I am somewhat distrusting of PETA however I know these to be facts, I have been to a factory farm before and I have no wish to ever return to one!. (Unless if we are closing one down)Www@FoodAQ@Com

the person below me has a good point, but I heard the video mention PETA which is a veryyy unreliable source!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Rest assured cattle for slaughter in a LEGITIMATE slaughter house are treated well, stressed cattle leads to poor yield and it is all about the money!. They are "knocked" in the head with a steel slug!. They are killed instantly!. There are USDA inspectors and veterinarians in EVERY LEGITIMATE facility!. Those are NOT employees of the slaughter house, those are government employees (your tax dollars at work)

The ones with their throats slits are in Kosher slaughter houses and that is done with the Rabi right there!.

Why would any legitimate facility even run the risk of mistreating the animals before slaughter!? Again, stressed animals lead to poor yield and money is what it is about!. And in this day and age doing it may end up on video and be seen around the world and no one wants that kind of publicity, first it is illegal and they will be shut down!.

And I know I'll get thumbs down for this, but half the time when you see those hidden camera videos, how do we know the "employees" doing the mistreating aren't planted there by PETA and other organizations!. Come on! These are the same people that release mink from their pens and for what!? To run away and die in the elements!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

they Stun them than Slit their Throats And Cut them Up very sad :[Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian, I eat only veggies, fruits, some types of dairy, and once in a while eggs!.!. but i try to avoid them!.
The reason why I chose to turn vegetarian is because I was becoming concerned for animals, and plus I never liked the taste of meat!.
The slaughtering process is a very terrible and heart breaking process!.!.

1!. Cows are received by truck or rail from a ranch, farm, or feedlot!.
2!. Cows are herded into holding pens!.
3!. Cows receive a preslaughter inspection!.
4!. Cows are usually knocked unconscious by applying an electric shock of 300 volts and 2 amps to the back of the head, effectively stunning the animal[8]!. If unsuccessful, secondary methods include the use of a captive bolt pistol to the front of the cow's head!. Livestock are also rendered unconscious by pneumatic or cartridge-fired captive bolt stunning and CO2/inert gas stunning!. (This step is prohibited under strict application of Halal and Kashrut codes!.)Although some animals, mainly pigs and chickens, have their throats slit while fully conscious to be bled to death!.
5!. Animals are hung upside down by one of their hind legs on the processing line!.
6!. The main arteries and veins are severed with a knife, mainly in the neck, and the cow's blood drains, causing death through exsanguination!.
7!. The hide/skin/plumage is removed by down pullers, side pullers and fisting off the pelt (sheep and goats)
8!. The internal organs are removed and inspected for internal parasites and signs of disease!. The guts, referred to as viscera, are separated for inspection from the heart and lungs, referred to as the "pluck!." Livers are separated for inspection, tongues are dropped or removed from the head, and the head is sent down the line on the head hooks or head racks for inspection!.
9!. The carcass is inspected by a government inspector for safety!. (This inspection is performed by the Food Safety Inspection Service in the US, and CFIA in Canada!.)
10!. Carcasses are subjected to intervention to reduce levels of bacteria!. Common interventions are steam, hot water, and organic acids!. Carcasses are chilled to prevent the growth of microorganisms and to reduce meat deterioration while the meat awaits distribution!.
11!. The chilled carcass is broken down into subprimals and primals for boxed meat unless customer specifies for swinging sides of meat!. Beef and horse carcasses are always split in half and then quartered, Pork is split into sides only and Goat/Veal/Mutton and Lamb is left whole
12!. The remaining carcass may be further processed to extract any residual traces of meat, usually termed mechanically recovered meat, which may be used for human or animal consumption!.
13!. Waste materials such as lard or tallow, are sent to a rendering plant!.
14!. The waste water, consisting of blood and fecal matter, generated by the slaughtering process is sent to a waste water treatment plant!.
15!. The meat is transported to distribution centers that then distribute to retail markets!.

Sorry if this is too graphic for some, BUT ITS THE TRUTH!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

To get an accurate view, I think you need to visit a slaughterhouse yourself and decide!.

The problem is that there are lots of sites promulgated by PETA and anti-meat eating groups that have good intentions, but take liberties with facts and make some things sound much worse than they really are!.

My son-in-law objects to the manner in which animals are kept prior to slaughter, but has no trouble eating venison which has been hunted and slaughtered via a hunter's arrow or bullet!. Why this is better than being a cow that is shot in a slaughterhouse is not clear to me, but I respect his choice, and give him no grief at all!. He does not insult omnivores or try to get people to conform to his choice!.

Perfect!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The word is slaughter!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
