Does being a vegetarian/vegan help you loose weight?!
Is it true!?
Which one helps you loose more!?
Is it easy to become one!? Like do you have to take vitamins for protein!?
My teacher said you just have to eat a lot of peanuts!. But I'm allergic to peanuts (just peanuts not the other nuts!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Becoming a vegetarian, or adopting any other kind of diet for that matter, will not make you miraculously lose weight!. To lose weight, you have to eat fewer calories than you burn!. Even for vegans, who don't eat calorie-dense meat and eggs, this can be difficult!.
Often, when people first become vegetarian, they actually GAIN weight because they eat poorly--if you try to replace all meat with cheese, eat too many almond butter sandwiches, and load up on desserts and snacks, you will gain weight!. If you eat a sensible diet with reasonable amounts of whole grains, nuts, vegetables, fruits, soy products, and a few desserts, you will be able to lose weight!. You might want to buy a vegetarian cookbook to get ideas for lunches and dinners, and talk to your vegetarian classmates to see what things they eat often!. If you're very concerned about losing weight, you should probably limit things like white rice and potatoes, too!.
And no, you don't have to take vitamins if you're ovo-lacto; if you're vegan, you'll need to take a supplement to get B12!. You can get plenty of protein on a vegan diet; beans, whole grains, soy, nuts, and enriched drinks are all good!. If you're ovo-lacto, you have eggs and (preferably low-fat) dairy products as well!.
Don't listen to your teacher, by the way!. If you try to get all your protein from nuts, you'll be taking in WAY more fat than you need, and you'll probably gain weight pretty fast!. You can eat one handful of nuts per day and still be healthy, but you should diversify your protein sources in order to avoid excess fat!.
I hope this answers all your questions!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I found that when after I went vegan a lot of friends had noticed that I lost weight
It made sense because of the fact that you don't consume fatty dairy products and meat anymore
But I also felt so much more active, awake, and energized
I definitely recommend itWww@FoodAQ@Com

Nothing will miraculously help you lose weight!. If you eat poorly even while being a vegetarian it won't help you lose weight!. You'll likely gain weight!. Planning your menu helps!.
When I became a vegetarian I made sure I ate smaller more balanced meals and sometimes I have "fake meat!." I basically increased my activity level as well!. I lost 20 pounds by becoming a vegetarian!. Now I am totally vegan as well!. The key is balance between activity and healthy good meals!.
I basically shop once a week for fresh fruit/vegetables and bread and cook and plan my meals around what I find at the store!. I freeze items and use them throughout the week as well!. I take a multivitamin everyday and Yes, you can get some protein through nuts as well!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Any extremist diet is not healthy, this is why even the most devout vegetarians have to take dietary supplements in order to balance out their skimpy diet!. Humans were designed to eat a mix of meat & vegetables, not exclusively one or the other!. A properly balanced diet is necessary to maintain good health & weight, including lean meats, plenty of vegetables, and minerals!.
My weight started to interfere with my health, so my doctor had me cut back on fats & sugars starting six weeks ago!. MacDonald's breakfasts (which are notoriously bad for you) are out, as are German sausage link wraps (my favorite lunch, but very high in fats), and of course a load of sugary desserts & drinks!. I began consuming more lean meats to replace the fatty stuff, and eating a lot of salads!. With this diet change alone I've been losing a pound per week!.
I still have a long way to go (I didn't put on 100 extra pounds overnight) but it's a comfortable & healthy way to start losing weight!. Next is to start taking evening walks around our rather large block!. I figure if I move fast enough to stay ahead of the Texas mosquitoes I should lose another pound or two per week easily!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
