Answers:
That's a tough one!. There are two compelling sides to this argument!.
I think that celebrities carry a certain amount of power and if they are attached to a cause, it will bring a lot of awareness from the general public!.
For example (and I'm not sure if you're old enough!.!.!.): People probably don't remember when the Ryan White story was first made known!? But I'd bet they remember when Michael Jackson and Elton John starting getting involved with his plight and helped him!. It brought a LOT of public awareness to the AIDS issue!. Even today, Elton John is a huge funraiser and supporter for this disease!. He even has his own AIDS foundation!.
The hip-hop group TLC used to wear condoms attached to their clothing!. It brought practicing safe sex to the public's attention!.
I cite these two instances because like veg*nism, AIDS and safe sex awareness are indeed lifestyle changes!. It's much deeper than using bikini-clad women to sell beer or something like that!.
I don't think that there is anything wrong with stars using their star power or models using their bodies to bring awareness to a cause!. The ends justify the means!. If someone converts to veg*nism because of a superficial reason and then further researches on their own to find that it's something they're passionate about then I think it's great!. They would have not otherwise given it a second thought had their favorite movie star not been an advocate!. If someone starts for the wrong reasons and then decides it is not for them, then that's okay too!. At least they are more aware and they tried!. It's better than nothing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

let them do it if they want! its just like people going skimpy for magazines!.

People will go vegan/vegetarian if they want, not because of a pretty girl wearing a lettuce!.

And if they did go vegan/vegetarian because of it, they wont keep it up!. I see no problem in girls wearing a lettuce because they want to encourage what they believe in!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

People become vegetarians and vegans for many different reasons!. Some do because they are religiously against it, they may have a disorder or disease that benefits from a meat free diet, they may feel that it isn't fair for the animal to be slaughtered or, like I did, they may become a vegetarian purely for the fact that they don't like the idea of eating an animal!.

In the long run however, the reason doesn't matter and if someone really wants to be a vegan or vegetarian or if they don't, if their belief is strong enough, no one will change their minds!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

One of the things I hate most about PETA is their sexism and the way they exploit women's bodies!. I don't need anyone to tell me that the women posing are doing it voluntarily, it is the exploitation of women per se that concerns me, and the repercussions for ALL women of using women's naked or semi-clothed bodies in advertising, whatever the advertisement is for!.

That said, I doubt anyone ever actually went vegan because they saw a pair of breasts, and if anyone did I doubt if they stayed vegan!.

Don't judge all of us by PETA!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You are correct they have gone too far!. Their fanatical beliefs are so extreme they actually push people away from the idea!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think every little bit helps!. Of course I can see that your referring to PETA!. And although they are far from perfect, they do bring a lot of awareness to the subject of animal cruelty/exploitation!. Many people think that PETA is sexist and "using women" for the benefit of the cause but that's not entirely true!. There is also the "Broccoli Boys" http://www!.lettuceladies!.com/broccoli_bo!.!.!. who are up and coming!.

I can see that PETA is somewhat "propagandist" and I do not fully support their actions but I do credit them for bringing an important issue to my eyes and conscience!.

By far and large, most people don't just come across slaughterhouse videos or info on studies that claim detrimental health effects of eating meat and dairy!.!.!.!.they usually have to search it out as I did!.

I don't feel that non-profits such as PETA are encouraging veganism for the wrong reasons!. In fact, I feel they have the best intentions for their cause, the animals!.

Negative publicity is still publicity!. And while they are a very hated group and are flooded in controversy, they are still doing some pretty awesome things for farmed animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

What's so terrible about using sex to sell veganism!? It's used to sell everything else, after all!.

Each vegan has his/her own reasons for being vegan, and if uber-sexiness is one of them, then rock on!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

personally, i don't care what they're doing to get people to go veg just so long as it works for somebody and doesn't demean anyone!. people go veg for so many different reasons, and i dont' agree with all of them!. i went vegetarian partly due to my belief that it is what God intended (i am a Christian) and i know that many people wouldn't agree with that!. if it gets people to live a more humane lifestyle, i have no argument with their motives!. if some teen girl goes vegetarian because she idolizes miley cyrus (a vegetarian) i really don't care that it's a vapid reason!.!.!.it's still saving the lives of animals that would have otherwise died a horrible death!. in my opinion, the more the merrier =DWww@FoodAQ@Com

vegetarianism is stupid!. c'mon!.!. you need meat, protein, b12 vitamins and fat to be healthy!. don't listen to those pot smoking emo hippies!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
