Vegetarians answer please!!?!

Question: Vegetarians answer please!!!?
If you are a vegetarian!. The type who believes animals should not be killed and sold as meat for people to eat!.

Does it make sense that you like to eat food that tastes like, feels like, smells like meat but it is not meat!. It just makes no sense that you don't like meat yet you want to have a substitute for it that is very similar!. I just feel that if you are this type of vegetarian you should not want anything that is remotely similar to meat based on your beliefs of animals rights!.

Okay,
Let us say you go to a friend’s house and they serve you a stew!. It smells awesome and you taste it and it tastes delicious!. There are tender pieces of meat in them that are seasoned just right…

Halfway through the meal they tell you that it is actually cat meat!.
Chances are you would be grossed out and stop eating!.

It’s not that it doesn’t taste good!.
It’s not that you didn’t enjoy it!.

It’s the fact that you feel eating a cat is repulsive!.
You don’t see a “cat” as “food”

Well vegetarians don’t see cows or pigs or chickens as “food”

It is not the taste of meat that repulses a vegetarian!. It is the association with death and suffering that it represents!.

If a piece of tofu can be seasoned to where it tastes like a piece of barbeque rib!. I can enjoy it because it tastes good and I see it as food and not as a piece of carcass that has been cooked!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Just because you eat substitute food, does not mean you don't believe in animal rights!. It means that you like the way it tastes, but don't like where it comes from!. People who have eaten meat before and like it are giving up a lot to be a vegetation!. If they want to eat something similar, but that is made of veges, who cares!. It's better than the person eating meat, isn't it!? So, why does eating a hot dog made of soy beans, disqualify you of believing in animal rights!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Of course, you're stereotyping and assuming that all vegetarians eat and like meat substitutes!. I don't!. My protein comes from beans and tofu!. I avoid these meat-like substitutes as much as I can because, well, other foods taste better!.

I'm sure there are many other vegetarians who are like me in this preference!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm not vegetarian because of the way meat tastes or looks!. I'm vegetarian because I don't want to support the routine cruelty to animals on factory farms and slaughterhouses!.

Fake meats allow vegetarians to enjoy their favorite tastes and textures, but without the animal suffering!. The faux meat products make it a lot easier to transition to veg diets!.!.!. it's so easy to use veg meatballs instead of meatballs from cows, or veg bacon instead of bacon from pigs!.

So I don't see the problem with vegetarians using fake meats!.!.!. they're made of soy protein; it's kind of like taking some soybeans and molding them into strips or balls or patties!. As long as there's no meat in them, why not enjoy these delicious vegetarian products!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, I found it a easier change from a meat diet to a non-meat diet!. You start to eat stuff that tasted close to the same to get used to the taste!. also, this has a lot of the protein, and calcium, and all the good things you need!. Even though it does taste a lot like meat, it make you feel like you have no limitations while not eating meat!. This also, makes you feel very good when you eat it!. You can tell the difference between it and meat, and it makes you feel like your saving many animals!. Even though this does taste similar, it still has different texture, and a slightly different taste, making you know that you aren't harming an animal!.

So, pretty much, eating this, you realize that it is not meat, and you realize that your meal is way better than a meat eaters, both for animal reasons, and health ones also!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The fake/soy/boca/whatever stuff tastes really good to me, which is why I eat it!. However, I don't eat the substitutes all the time!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hey, I know where you're coming from!.!.!. if something is vegan but made to taste like meat, I simply can not eat it!. Mentally, there's no way for my tastebuds to separate the meat from the vegan option and I feel revolted by eating it!. I guess you could say it's just a little too realistic for me!.

I have friends who eat the substitutes though and they are SO passionate about animal rights etc!. The difference is that for them, the taste is more like a link to childhood memories and having those nice hearty home cooked meals they grew up with!.

It's about familiarity!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

To me, it's not that similar!. Really, it isn't!. I love 'tofu turkey' but I hate real turkey!.!.!.!.it makes me sick!.

And vegetarians who believe animals should not be killed for food don't (usually) have a problem with the meat itself!.!.!.!.just the killing that must be done to acquire it!. So, meat substitutes are acceptable because you do not have to kill an animal to get it!. It's like wearing fake fur- it's not hurting anything, because it's not real!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am this type of vegetarian, and I think that this type is more than allowed to eat meat substitutes!. A lot of us miss meat when we give it up, but won't eat it any more, leaving us with cravings!. I'd agree it would be strange to eat them if you gave it up because you didn't like the taste, but I don't think it's a problem!. We just don't eat meat!. Things that taste like meat but aren't are fine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, I am a vegetarian for the animal rights reasons, health reasons and I dont really like the taste either!. I am able to eat meat substitutes because I work out and need the protein!. It helps a lot knowing that it is made of soy, but at times I do feel sick when eating them just because its kinda like meat!.!.!. I hate boca burgers because they taste like actual burgers to me, but anything that doesn't actually taste like meat is ok!. I think it just depends on your 'level' of vegetarianism!.!.!. I still eat fish and dairy products, but no eggs!.!.!. maybe thats why it doesnt bother me!.!. IDKWww@FoodAQ@Com

How does that not make sense to you!? Just because a person does not want animals killed for food does not mean that they don't like the taste of meat still!. Good grief people, get some damn sense!. I don't understand how you and others like you cannot understand that fake meat has nothing to do with real meat, most of us grew up eating meat and some of us like the taste of meat!. And really is it any of your business!? Is it hurting you in any way!? No, it isn't hurting anyone period!. Gaaaaarrrrrr!Www@FoodAQ@Com

It helps the transition into vegetarianism!. People crave foods that they're used to eating!. People that need extra protein crave meats or whatever source of protein they are used to!. In a way it's a method of tricking your mind to satisfy your appetite!. also some people like the smoky taste!. There's no reason to think it's hypocritical!. Actually, it's better because we're promoting and purchasing an alternative that even meat eaters will find palatable!Www@FoodAQ@Com

i eat fake meat, i was a vegetarian for 6 years!. sure i eat chicken here and there now, but if i have a choice i choose the fake stuff :) People eat the "meat" cuz it tastes good without the bad part of it actually being a dead animal!. I don't like meat because I don't want to eat something that had feelings, random soy and veggie parts made into patties didn't, so it's not a problem!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ha, it all depends on individual :-) No totally right or wrong!.

Flake meat or mock meat is meant to help going vegetarian easier, helping to wearn off from meat at the initial stage of being a vegetarian!. Not all people can totally stop at once, some go slowly by eat less and less!.

Some loves meat but understand the suffering the animals go through!. At times, they do have craving, so flake meat come to rescure!.

Sometimes, we do need a little mock stuff to have more varieties for our veg!. dishes!. Personally, i feel that if i can enjoy my meal without harming any animals, this is a win-win situation for me and the animals!.

Unless, the individual can take the smell of the meat or don't like meat at it is, then offerring these mock meat is going to make them sick!.

In here, mock meat was produced to help people going vegetarian, because there are many popular and yummy dishes cooked with meat!. So, for these dishes, vegetarian eateries used mock meat!. There are also vegetarian who do not eat mock meat at all!.

an animal is not being killed for substitute meat like Quorn!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The reason vegetarians eat the substitute of meat - quorn - is because it is not healthy to just cut something something straight out of your diet and not replace it with something else, and because it would be very boring to just eat vegetables all the time!. Just because vegetarians don't believe in killing animals dosen't mean they can't eat something like meat that isn't meat, anyways, shouldn't that set an example to all the meat-eaters!? That you could eat the substitute instead as it tastes pretty much the same but it spares animals lives in the process!. You made a good point and I respect your opinion!. :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sorry, i have no clue about your logic!.

In what way is a disc shaped object (burger ) like an animal !?
When did you see a thin disc slice ( like ham ) roam the fields !?
How do lesser spotted sausages mate !?

All these products are jsut convienniece shapes!.

People, including you it seems, have been brainwashed into thinking burgers look and taste like "meat" in order to sell you meat that would otherwise go for dog food!.

Eating a veggie burger does not require a cow to die - thats the point!.

I have no clue if a veggie burger feels, smells or tastes like dead cows, why would i !? I eat them ocassionally because they are convienient and fast to prepare!.

Are you also saying we should not use black and white paint because they are the colours of Fresian cows !?

If the mock meats were shaped like chickens and bled when you cut them, or cried in pain when you put them in the oven, i could see your point!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

What does it matter what meat substitutes look or taste like!? The bottom line is that an animal hasn't been killed to make that food!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

People begin developing their sense of taste as small children!. If we grow up eating meat or meat substitutes, we develope a taste for it!. When we develope our own sense of moral value, and we see the opportunity to still indulge without violating animal rights, I don't see how that is a problem!. We aren't eating meat!. We are eating wheat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
