Can you be a 'meat eater' all your life and wake up one morning realising you're a vegetarian?!

Question: Can you be a 'meat eater' all your life and wake up one morning realising you're a vegetarian!?
I've never been the religious type, or morally against eating meat at all!. Ok I don't like animal cruelty, but I've never seen the problem with farming!. Weird thing is, I woke up last week and realised I couldn't bring myslef to have a bacon sandwich!. Now the idea of eating meat is repulsive!. It just seems so wrong!. Help!

I also don't know how I'm going to get enough iron etc into my diet, and how do I tell my parents I won't eat their meals which I previously loved!? I already supposedly don't eat enough and I don't think they'll understand!. I've never been a picky person with food at all - just don't eat huge amounts!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I suppose it could happen!. Why does any go vegetarian/vegan!? Just personal taste!. As for telling your parents, just let them know that although you love their cooking, you've come to a realization and you're just not comfortable eatting meat and that although you see their point and wont push your feelings on them, you'd appreciate it if they'd respect your wishes on the matter also!. For the iron, I'd start taking a vitamin &/or iron supplement!. I've always been told that pregnant or not, prenatal vitamins are the best to get everything you need!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I guess so - other people have done it!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

it could be your body telling you something
that you need less of for a while
try meat alternatives but still eat healthy
then work the meat back in to your dietWww@FoodAQ@Com

Yes I think so!.

I don't eat meat because I don't like it!. I don't label myself as a vegetarian because I don't like the nambi-pambiness connotation that comes with it!.

How are you going to tell your parents!? No idea!. It's been a battle that has spanned over two decades with me and my parents!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yea i suppose

maybe ur pregnant!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

You're not a vegetarian until after you give up meat!.

You didn't say how old you are, but you did say you live at home and you don't currently eat enough!. If you're too thin now and you give up meat without making positive dietary changes, it could be bad for your health!. You should figure out how you're going to manage your diet very quickly!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes i did one day, it was repulsive after seeing foot and mouth diseased animals 7 years ago and it just put me off, like i would be eating poison, was a really easy way to give up meat!. Parents take time to realise you are being serious and will moan a bit, but stick to your guns!.
Sometimes they also forget and dish you up meat without realising, politely decline it if it really is going to upset you!.
But you mustnt be fickle or people wont take you seriously i mean if you mean vegetarian dont cheat by getting a maccy d after going to a club, i know some people dont even class this as real meat lolWww@FoodAQ@Com

Of course!. After 20 years of eating meat, I one day decided to change my ways and I haven't looked back!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

its perfectly plausible to go off meat suddenly!. whether it lasts or not is another question!.
but if you do become a vegeterian!. dont worry about nutrition!. there are plenty of vege foods out there that provide the nutrition your body requires (protein, iron, etc)!.!.!.some even provide more than meat foods can!.
you can get all this information if you look it up on google!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

no!.!.!.ur just in ur "cool" emotional state and u want to believe that u r a vegetarian!.!.!.just give yourself a day or two and youll b bak to eating burgers and suchWww@FoodAQ@Com

Read a few books on vegetarianism!. There are a few good vegetarian websites, but YA tends to be 50% trolls, so take what you read here with a grain of salt!.

About you finding meat so repulsive now!. Your probably a bit like me, I never really liked meat!. As a child I ate it because it was what my parents ate!. As I got older and read more I started questioning why I still ate the stuff!. I've been a vegetarian most my adult life!. I'm 52 and would never go back to eating meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Is it because meat can be quite fatty that perhaps you now don't like it!? I just wonder because you have said that people (your parents!?) say that you don't eat a lot!. If you are healthy weight for your height, then explain how you feel to your parents and maybe help cook non meat substitutes for you to eat so it doesn't add to your parents workload!. If you are underweight, the reason they might not understand might be because they are worried that they don't think you are getting the right nutrition if you are eating enough!.

Hopefully you can speak to your parents about how you feel about eating and eating meat particularly!. They are looking out for your interests, so they should also be able to help give you advice about supplements as they will have a better knowledge of your eating habits than we will!.

Good Luck :)

Edit: In that case I'd say as long as you help your parents out with the cooking then they shouldn't have a problem with it!. By 17 your choices are your own!. Even if you change your mind at a later date as long as your actions only affect you and no one else then it's your freedom to choose :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

After watching the movie the Lion King when she was about 7 my daughter changed her name to Nala and refused to eat meat!. It lasted about 3 hours!.

I am guessing that when you get good and hungry that slab o' bacon will look pretty good to you!

Seriously though, in my older life, I am transitioning away from meats to soy based products, so I would, if I were you, do this thing gradually!. Your body might not like the sudden shock of a radical change!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

as for being a meat eater all your life and one day realizing your a veg, i can't quite say!. i'm not vegetarian per say, but i rarely eat meat, especially red meat!. & i remember as a little kid being called picky because i didn't want to eat a burger or a bowl of meaty chili, etc etc!. this went on through my years and about 2 years ago i started eating healthy and that didn't include a ton of meat, not like i had been eating much of it anyway!. but it wasn't like i woke up thinking "i'm going to not eat meat from now on", it was kind of throughout my life!.

as for the iron part, coming from someone who had anemia, dark green veggies should become your best friend!. eat romaine salad instead of iceberg or whatever!. try soy milk and organic yogurts for calcium!. also make sure you take a multivitamin daily!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

that's how it happened to me!. but something initiated it because the night before i watched a few documentaries on factory farming, but i didn't go to sleep thinking 'i'm going to wake up vegetarian'!. i just realised the next day that everything had changed and i just couldn't stomach the thought of eating meat ever again!. and i've never looked back!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, such a thing can happen for a variety of reasons!. People who have smoked for 20-30 years or longer all of a sudden just want to stop!. You don't need to justify such actions!. Just go do what you think is best!.

Funny about how some people would say "!.!.!.eating dead animals!.!.!." as "disgusting"!. Does that mean that eating live animals is more acceptable!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

yer i fink u can if u fink ur gettin fed up with eatin animals -xWww@FoodAQ@Com

its all in the mind to be honest, you chose not to eat meat your mind does not make decisions on its own!.

If you are to become veggie, then i suggest you get some multivitamins, iron tablets and some air freshnerWww@FoodAQ@Com
