Answers:
The first time I tried tofu- and LIKED it, it was in peanut sauce!. There really are many different ways to try it!. Is it the texture that bothers you!? There are different densities- firm, extra firm and soft!. I would suggest trying it at a japanese restaurant where you can talk to the sushi chef and explain your predicament- maybe can you try just a bite, not be charged for a full order!? A simple google search for vegetarian protein yields:
PROTEIN IN LEGUMES: Garbanzo beans, Kidney beans, Lentils, Lima beans, Navy beans, Soybeans, Split peas
PROTEIN IN GRAINS: Barley, Brown rice, Buckwheat, Millet, Oatmeal, Rye, Wheat germ, Wheat, hard red, Wild rice
VEGETABLE PROTEIN: Artichokes, Beets, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Green peas, Green pepper, Kale, Lettuce, Mushrooms, Mustard green, Onions, Potatoes, Spinach, Tomatoes, Turnip greens, Watercress, Yams, Zucchini
PROTEIN IN FRUITS: Apple, Banana, Cantaloupe, Grape, Grapefruit, Honeydew melon, Orange, Papaya, Peach, Pear, Pineapple, Strawberry, Tangerine, Watermelon

You may want to do a little more reading up on vegetarianism!. You also may want to supplement your diet with a multivitamin!. You also want to make sure that you arent eating the same thing all the time!. Different plants have different nutrients- so you dont want to miss out on any!.!.!. Go to your farmers market and talk to farmers about whats in season, and if you dont have access to that, ask your produce aisle person whats fresh, organic and local!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I HATE TOFUWww@FoodAQ@Com

I hate tofu!.!.it is gookey crap!. When I go to chinese resturaunt!.!.i really like hot and sour soup!.!.if they won't make it for me with out tofu I leave!. Eat lots of eggs!. Eggs have a lot of protein!.!.also beans!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Just eat other high protein items like beans!.!.!.!.

Take an iron supplement or you may become anemic!.

Talk to a nutritionist on vegan lifestyles they can help alot or the cheap way just read a book or 2 on it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Twice is hardly a try!.

There are hundreds of ways to prepare tofu!. Get yourself a cookbook, and try again!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

There are plenty of non-meat protein sources aside from tofu!. Beans have plenty of protein along with tons of other good nutrients!. You could also try other mock-meats!. Seitan is made from wheat gluten and is much "meatier" than tofu and has almost as much protein as steak!. So don't worry if you don't like tofu; there are lots of other ways to get protein!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Eat Quorn instead, a mycoprotein known to contain more protein than meat, it is healthy (no excess fat) and tasty!. Or try Cauldron or Linda McCartney's range!.!. All are very nice!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Tofu is indeed an acquired taste!.!.!.but perhaps it was prepared incorrectly!. It isn't good (as is ANY food) when cooked improperly or with the wrong seasonings!.
I'm not sure what way you tried to eat it, but it comes in different degrees of firmness!. It states on the package what type is good for certain dishes (like stir fry, grilling, desserts, dips, etc!.)!.
Tofu is a versatile food and a great source of calcium and protein!. I hope you don't write it off after two tries!

Any-who, you can always eat beans, legumes and quinoa!. Those are good ways to get protein!. I would advise against eating too many faux meats!. They are okay in moderation, but keep in mind they are a heavily processed food!.
I hope that helps!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Tofu!?!? *Pukes on the ground*!.!.!. *Dog comes and starts eating it*!.!.!. Ew!.!.!. Nasty dog!! Anyway!.!.!. Just eat meat, tofu is disgusting!.!.!. and meat is specially more delicious and tender when the animal has cried and suffered before it was butchered!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No you will be fine!. Soy products are not needed any more than animal flesh is to be HEALTHY!.
I am allergic to soy(very common)!.

I eat a vegan diet for the most part and eat tofu not very often at all!. If you can't eat it, there's plenty of other sources of protein, etc!.

Don't fall into the "not getting enough protein" myth!. Nature looks after that for you!. For instance, if you eat a side salad in a meal of high quality greens, (not iceberg lettuce for instance), you will get maybe a couple of grams of protein!. So the meat lovers and society in general says "it's not a source of protein"!. But of course, not a substantial source at that level!. But if you don't eat the meat crap and other stuff and eat large salads, that 2 grams for a small amount could become like 10 grams or 15 grams in a large salad!. The same thing goes for other vegetables!.

It has also been noted by many sources that the average north american eats many times more protein than their bodies can actually use!. So you don't need to try and match the amount of protein you'd get eating an animal based diet!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

EAT MEAT!!!!!!!!!!
Eat the cow!!!!!!
*slaps myself for saying that*

Tempeh, Seitan, nuts, avocado, portobello mushroom are excellent alternatives!.

Protein is not "all that!." Americans over all, eat way too much protein!. It's very taxing to our bodies!.

Edit: Dear Euphoria - Ounce per ounce, Seitan has twice the protein and half the calories compared to the same amount of beef!. also, almost NO fat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Take vitamin's if your not getting the right stuff in your system

also meat like steak is good, try eating soup's though, Myself I love curry!
its so easy to make and fun and when its extremely spicey its the best!.!.!.
(altough my friends who have tryed it say its good but say its way to hot for there taste lol)

Tofu is fun I usto get like stirfry vegtables and cook them in the wok or w/e and put the little tofu cubes in with the vegtables and what I do is pour a little hot sauce in it and anything I feel like having!.

hey try hot and sour soup aswell that stuff Pwn's!
I think I know why vegan's turn to vegtables though, its cause meat look's ugly, so go and make it look good, coat it with sauces and stuff and if its still gross looking cut it up into such little peices and throw it in a soup (thats pretty) and sip it down!.

I dont know though!.!.!.
best of luck with this thoughWww@FoodAQ@Com

There are so many ways that you can cook tofu, deep-fried, stir-fried, braised, steamed, in soup, in ice cream, to replace egg in egg n mayo sandwiches, as filling,!.!.!.!.

I don't know what way you have tried and it turn out bad!. I can use tofu to make green tea ice cream, I mashed tofu and season it and it become filling for deep-fried wonton which you can dip with tomatoes sauce and mayo sauce, this help to mask away the taste of tofu!. I can mashed them up and steam and make it like steam egg!. I can deep-fried it until it is crispy and nice, i can mashed them up and mix with spices to make falafel!.

Try to get protein from other sources like nuts, beans etc , if you don't like tofu!.

You can drink soy milk, if you don't like tofu!.

I have a lots of tofu recipes at the my blogs - http://crystalbyblog!.blogspot!.com/search!.!.!.
