i think peta's website has a very comprehensive list of companies you should and should not buy from, including food companies, as well as makeup companies and companies that make clothing or things like shampoo!.

as for what you shouldn't eat, if you are a vegan you can't eat any meat (obviously), fish, animal byproducts such as gelatin (its in a lot of candies, check carefully!), and dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt

being a vegan means that you also don't wear clothes or buy products made from animal skin or byproducts!. so you don't wear leather or fur, and don't buy makeup/shampoo/lotions, etc that are tested on animals or have things like beeswax and gelatin in them!. before you buy things, look on the label to see if it says "this product is not tested on animals!." beware bath and body works, their products say "this finished product is not tested on animals", which is NOT the same thing

i'm not sure about the toothpaste, but you can look on peta!.org, i bet they have some information about it!. i'm also not sure about the grains, i wouldn't think there was anything wrong with that, but i'm not sure!.

a place to look for vegan objects is the ethnic food section in the grocery store!. a lot of thai foods and indian foods companies make vegan products!. you can also find them in the frozen food section, especially if you look at morningstar (a meatless brand)!. all of these products i have just mentioned usually clearly state on the label "VEGAN" near the ingredients or on the front of the box!.

this should be a good start for you, hope it helpsWww@FoodAQ@Com

The others are mostly correct, but don't let the "vegan police" get at you!. There are so many food additives that are animal-derived you'd have to carry a book with you when you shop!. One that is out there a lot is casein!. It is made from calf's stomach and makes cheese melt!.

If you are a vegan for health reasons, Vegan Freak is a wonderful, and funny, book to begin with!. If you are an ethical vegan, then you have to start watching other things besides food!. No leather, no fur, no honey and no products tested on animals!. I know Avon doesn't test!. I don't think Revlon does either!. PETA has a does/does not pamphlet!. And NO Proctor and Gamble- they are notorious animal testers!. As is Iams!. Tom's products (toothpaste) are not animal tested!.

Being a vegan, the Internet is your best friend!. Once I found a page that told me the grams of protein in most vegan foods!. And if you're vegan, take a B-12 supplement!. Can't get it from non-meat foods!. It's just a tiny bit, like 50mcg a day!.

Any other !?'s, feel free to email me!.

Thank you for caring about the animals!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't know where you get the idea that vegans don't eat grains!. Many of us do!. There's barley, bulgur, millet, quinoa, to name a few, and all are quite good!.

Colgate-Palmolive, Procter and Gamble, and Johnson & Johnson are three of the biggies that test on animals, and it's hard to list all their subsidiaries!. If you go to a natural foods store, you should have a good chance of finding a company that doesn't test on animals!. Or you can go to a vegan online retailer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Go to Amazon or a bookstore and order the book "Vegan Freak: Being Vegan in a Non Vegan World" by Torres and Torres!.

It is the best beginner's guide to vegan living, plus it also has a lot of really good information on what companies not to buy from and what companies are vegan safe!. They go through a bunch of products !.!.!. even down to beer that doesn't use animal products in processing to condoms and such!. Very highly recommended for the newbie!

Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vegans who don't eat grains are just the same people who wouldn't be able to eat grains if they were meat-eaters!. Some people can't eat grains like wheat, rye, or barley!. They have a gluten intolerance called celiac disease, something that about 1 in 144 people have, though most are undiagnosed!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vegans do not use any animal products:
No eggs, milk, butter, cheese or animal fabrics or other animal products!. Grains such as bread or cake are often made with milk and eggs and that makes them not vegan! You can buy vegan bread or cereal I think!.

These companies test on animals:
http://www!.thevegetariansite!.com/ethics_!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Nothing with a face, a parent or a reproductive system!.

The latter would include the plants that produce the grains but not the grains themselves!. You can eat the fruits and veggies off the plants but not the plants themselves!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not eating grains has nothing to do with veganism!. Vegans don't eat anything that comes from or is produced by an animal!. Someone who will only eat fruits and vegetables is a fruitarian, not a vegan!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
