VEGANS- What are your biggest struggles being vegan?!

Question: VEGANS- What are your biggest struggles being vegan!?
I'm looking into changing from being a pesco-vegetarian to vegan!. I really just want support I guess!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I've been vegan only for about a week, and so far, the hardest thing I'm finding is trying to identify every animal product or bi product in food!. I've slipped a few times already!. One of the teachers at school gave us candy, and I though it was okay, but I looked it up when I got home, and it really wasn't!. But, I'm trying!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

My biggest struggle is when I eat with people who aren't vegan, such as my family!. And it's really bad when I travel with them, as I don't have the option of running to a place where I know I can get something to eat!.

It's also hard in the workplace when they bring in cakes for people's birthdays and I can't partake!.

But hey, I've found so many wonderful vegan snacks that as long as I have those in somewhat easy reach, I'm fine!. It basically means carrying snack-type things with me all the time!.

The struggle is being against the mainstream, being vegan in a nonvegan world!.

And there is no such thing as pesco-vegetarian!. The only meat you eat right now is fish!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Good for you!.!.I think the biggest struggle would be the masses of misinformation about the lifestyle!. Mostly amoung vegans themselves!. The biggest problem with vegans and vegatarians is they still eat the same high fat diet they used to!. All the nutrients you need, are contained within fruits and veggies!.(if their organic) If not organic the plant will not be as good for you!. Veggie folks who think eating tons of seeds and nuts and olive oils are healthy are kidding themselves!. Fat should at the most comprise about 10% of your daily intake, as with protein only 10%!. The remaining 80% should be good carbs like in fruit and veggies!. Take a close look at a chimps diet!. Dont cook your food either, it denatures it!.
I think also if your going to do this dont be one of those people who try to make all the crap they use to eat out of vegan friendly supplies!. ( like vegan bacon!. boca burgers, etc!.!.) dont search out ways to live your old life a new way, just enjoy the awesome flavors of nature!. Do it right, eat RAWWww@FoodAQ@Com

My biggest challenge is having to prepare foods ahead of time!. I used to eat lunch out everyday at work, and I've found that unless I want to consume some dairy or meat product, most places close to my job just can't accomodiate me!.
But not eating meat or dairy has absolutely changed my physical appearance (lost weight, awesome skin and muscle tone) and my energy level (I'm not tired in the afternoons anymore)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Congratulations!
I haven't had many personal struggles as a vegan!. My 'struggles' are pet peeves, like other people not understanding that I eat lots of awesome, flavorful, nutritious food!. The other thing I don't like is people making remarks about animals tasting good, as though it somehow will change me or get me riled up!. It just makes them seem insensitive and I want to spend less time with that type of person!.
Most of my friends are vegetarian/vegan because I haven't eaten meat in over 12 years!. I went away to college as a vegetarian and met more of the same, then moved to LA as a vegan and met more of the same!. I feel well-supported, but when I meet people who eat meat, some of them ask ridiculous questions!. I think sometimes the questions are legitimate attempts to understand, "What do you eat!?"
Some people ask if I eat fish or chicken!. Lol!. (This is because of people like you! haha! *playful nudge*) Um, if you like seafood, make miso soup with lots of wakame, and eat veggie sushi, and put dulse on your salads!. Seaweed is so wonderful!. I love it!. Some veggies don't like seaweed because it reminds them of fish!.
That's my experience!. I love the food!. I find it easy to eat a wide variety of food!. Go for the whole grains, not 'enriched wheat' or refined grains!. Eat fresh fruit and raw or steamed veggies!. (you might already know since you're still eating fish, perhaps you're super-healthy)
You'll be fine!
For support, look for vegan meetup groups in your area!. also, the internet is a great resource, which you are taking advantage of!. :-)Www@FoodAQ@Com

The only struggles I have with it, is being understood, accepted and not ridiculed by people over it!. It is a hot topic, and when I mention that I am a Vegan, it's like people instantly want to get loud and laugh and say "More meat for me then!" and other retarded comments!. They can sure as hell speak up about how they think it's stupid, but let me even try to tell them why I do this, and they don't want to hear it!. Doesn't matter to me though!. It just makes me glad I'm not a spineless carnivore!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It can be hard at restaurants where salad is the only option!. I usually avoid such places, but in certain social situations it's not possible to choose a vegan-friendly restaurant!. But unless it's a fast food chain, I can often get a vegan dish by explaining the situation to the server!.

It was kind of hard when I first went vegan, because I felt like I was giving up all of my favorite foods and I didn't realize there are so many delicious vegan products out there!. These days, I enjoy everything from vegan grilled cheese to soy ice cream with dairy-free whipped cream! Being vegan has become routine; I don't have to think about it much anymore!.

Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Im a vegan and the hardest part for me would be not being able to eat junkfood because lots of things my mum buys says on it 'may contain milk and/or milk products'!.
and on the holidays when everyone else can eat whatever they want - and theres nothing for vegans !.e!.g!. vegan chocolate, vegan chicken, tofu etc!.!. because my family dont make the food its the great uncles and anties etc!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am vegetarian but I would find it almost impossible to go vegan!. Kudos to those who are vegan!. To answer your question, the hardest part would be finding snacks to eat considering most of them contain eggs and/or milk plus not being able to eat desserts, which usually contain eggs!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

My biggest struggle in the beginning was holidays!. Being around food and smelling!. Now that I'm over that, my biggest struggle is dealing with people who criticize me for being a vegetarian!. But even that is a small struggle!. I guess I could say there are no real struggles for me!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I never have any struggles lol!. I find being a vegan very easy!. I recommend the vegan with a vengeance cookbook!. there are great meals, snacks, desserts, anything you could think of in there!.

I hope you become a vegan, i feel so much better physically!.

good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

i am not a vegan but my sister is and her biggest struggle is the holidays!.!.!. i no it sounds wierd but during the holidays my mother always makes her vegan friendly food but when she sees everyone else eat she misses it but it goes agganst her believes so w!.eWww@FoodAQ@Com

How can you even call your self a vegetarian when you eat fish!? I highly disagree when people do that!. A dead animal is a dead animal!.

The only Issue I have with being vegan is the expensive food prices :PWww@FoodAQ@Com

My biggest struggle is uneducated people continually telling me that I don't get enough protein and nutrients!. However, they have no idea what they are talking about, but they think they do!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Like Meg C, I can't really think of any struggles I've had to go through except one: It's difficult to travel while vegan, although not impossible, because of all the eating in restaurants!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

What is "pescotarian"!? I have never head that before!. Lol!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
