Make a logical argument why it is wrong to kill animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Well, in strict logical terms, the universe is basically nihilist!. Nothing you do matters, is moral, or immoral because it all is going to happen anyway based on random bounces of particles!.

This is a rather bleak prospect, so we invented morality!. Morality and ethics are not logical constructs, but emotional ones!. Individual human beings are, at the root, narcissistic, which brought about the social contract of morality: I don't want to die!.!.!. I won't kill you if you don't kill me!.!.!.!.I wan't to be rich, I'll help you get rich if you help me get rich (cooperation)!.

The basic theme of our constructed morality seems, to me, to be "it is good to do unto others as you would have done unto you(alternatively: as is just, but then justice needs to be defined, and you might need to read Plato's Republic for that), within reasonable means"!.

You obviously wouldn't want someone to kill you for food, and especially not just for fun!. By this logic you should never kill anything (and thus starve to death)!. But is it just that you should die for the benefit of some other living thing, which will also undoubtably die anyway, eventually!? Maybe, but we have accepted that it is okay to kill things in order to live, which ties in the, "within reasonable means," portion of my take on morality!. It is unreasonable to be expected to starve to death so something else can live!.!.!.!. it goes against our narcissistic nature!.

Thus, killing animals to live is okay, killing for fun is not!.

Ultimately though, my argument boils down to this: morality is not founded on logic, but our will to live!. It is a social construct and defined by our culture!. If mainline culture agrees that it is immoral to kill animals, then, by definition, it is immoral!.

That is one view anyway!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The morality or immorality of killing animals is dictated by individual beliefs and principles!. People who belong in certain religious sects/orders or follow certain creeds who frown upon animal exploitation will see it and rationalize it as immoral based on those beliefs and principles!. But to those who subscribe to a different belief and moral system will see nothing wrong with it at all!.

From experience, unnecessarily cruel and inhumane treatment of ANY creature is frowned upon by most cultures however!. And that such behavior is exhibited in cultures where overall morality ( as universally seen) is on the decline!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

* An animal's life is as important to him as yours is to you!.

* Animals understand the world they live in!. If they did not, they could not survive!.

* Animals exist for their own purposes, not for human purposes!.

* Animals are sentient!. They are capable of feeling pain, and they are capable of suffering!.

* Animal murder is the apex of speciesism: putting the desires of one's own species above the basic needs of another species!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The most essential law of nature is to take no more than is needed!. Murder is the unethical killing of a being!. Killing for sake of ones survival though not necessarily the most spiritually optimum is at least understandable and the natural order of things!.

What most veg*ns (vegetarians and vegans) here are against (aside from the factory farm issue) is that most people in the modern world (especially in developed countries) do not need to eat meat to survive!.

Not only this but they would actually be healthier if they didn't as well as help to alleviate world hunger as a disproportionate among of vegetable matter goes to feeding livestock versus humans!. But this only brings up a whole host of other ethical issues related to the immorality of killing animals for food including environmental degradation!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Several situations comes to mind!.

Something that happens every year in many parts of the world around Halloween is the killing of black cats!. There is no reason for such!. They have no reason for such!. They aren't doing it for food or because they are hungry!. They kill - just to kill!. That is immoral!.

Or how about those people that fight cocks or pit bulls!? No reason - and the animals die!. No reason - other than someone is making money off the 'thrill' of others wanting to watch and bet on who dies!. Such is immoral!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm editing mine!. I live in appilachia where jobs are few and far between!. alot of families wouldn't eat during the winter if they couldnt hunt deer!. Not to mention we are over populated with them!. I think it is immoral to kill for sport and not for food!. especially whith as many American families starving as there are (you would be surprised)!. Take a drive throught coal fields of Kentucky someday, and then speak about how everyone can afford to live a vegan lifestyle!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

humans are animals too!. are you telling me it's okay to kill humans!?

why don't you tell me why it's okay to kill another living being!?

i have no right to take another innocent beings life!. i do not want to cause undue pain and suffering!. and i surely don't want to be killing another being for no reason!.

how on earth do you think killing an innocent being is okay to do!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Excess cruelty=wrong; i can't argue that though, i'm not a philosopher
but, i'm not going to argue against hunting!. we're animals, we're primates, and primates eat meat!. I'm just too lazy to go chasing after my food!.

anthropoligically speaking, humans became picky eaters as we came to rely on more reliable forms of food (we don't eat rats, cockroaches, insects!.!.!.well, some do, but most societies don't)!. veg is the next level of pickiness, because we can afford not to eat meat!. of course, i'd rather starve, but that's how i was raised!.

I respect people who can kill their own food, and disdain people who flinch when they see where their food is coming from!. if you can't handle it, why hire an assassin!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

if for any other reason was that man wasn't created to eat meat!. Adam and Eve ate plant food!. MAn wasn't allowed to eat meat at all until Noah!. And then after that it was very restricted!. But I think it was a situation where God made provision due to man's disobedience!?

I really don't think this is what man was made to eat!.

Leviticus goes through all kinds of restrictions on food, and if we were meant to eat meat then why the big long list of all that's bad for you!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because it's completely unnecessary and often involves great pain and suffering!?

Try to come up with a reason why it IS moral to kill animals, when we have the option not to!. And don't waste our time by basing it on your holy book, "but we've ALWAYS done that!!!" or "My momma said _____"Www@FoodAQ@Com

why is it right to kill animals!?
it is not necessary
it causes suffering
most people dislike it so much they wont do it themselves and rather pay others to do it for them
and why not kill people for food!? arent WE meat too!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

theres no need for it!.

the only reason people "need" it is for protein!. humans have found other sources of protein such as soybeans!. and the taste is all created by spices!. ever tasted steak w/o seasoning!? yeah, not so good!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Only wrong to kill an animal for sport or for a thrilll!.!.!. Killing an animal for food is not immoral!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Many who habituate this board do not need a logical reason, They operate on emotion!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Make a logical argument why it is right to kill animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, if it is just to kill something and see it suffer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The argument is the same as why it is wrong to kill other humans!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
