You're Vegetarian....How Do You Raise Your Children?!
My dilemma is, I have become a vegetarian!. Raising babies as vegetarian is fine and quite easy!. But I was raised a meat eater and I became a vegetarian for health reasons!. I remember lots of food from my childhood that had meat in it, and I have a kind of nostalgia for it!. I want my kids to experience the same feelings from this food as I do!.
I don't know what I should do!? Any advice!? Anyone else been in this position!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have 3 sons and they know my lifestyle and for the most part they want to eat Vegan, but they absolutely have a choice every day of what to eat, including meat!. Probably once a week they get chicken nuggets at school or whatever, but they for the most part eat fresh fruits like apples and grapes and oranges and alot of veggies like broccoli and vegetable medley type stuff!. We do alot with potatoes too!. I know you want them to have nice feelings about food, but let them have nice feelings about healthy good food so that when they are grown, and they need "comfort" food, they don't turn to greasy meat and fat for that comfort!. Build nice feelings around creative salads and warm biscuits with homeade fruit jams, etc!. There are other ways to give them comfort food without it being fried chicken and gravy!. We as parents want to give our kids the best everything in life, and unfortuantely alot of us weren't raised health-consciously, so we should give our children BETTER than we had!. Give them foundations they can build the rest of their lives on!. Everything in life has an alternative, you just have to look for it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I'm not sure I understand the question!. Why do you want your children to have nostalgic feelings for foods you do not and will not feed them!?
Or are you saying that you no longer have any feeling toward any food you prepare, but you want your kids to have these feelings toward the foods you cook!?
If you don't enjoy the food you fix, you're doing something wrong!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

That is a tough one, i have never been in this situation but, quorn is a great alternative to things like mince, u can use it in spaghetti bolognese, lasagne etc, and also they can still enjoy things like pizza with veggie on instead!
Im not suite sur ewhat u mean by u want them to feel a nostalgia towards the food, kids will believe anything u tell them and so telling them the truth sound slike th best option, tell ur son/ daughter that the sauge's/ bacon/ burger/ and chicken she used to eat is not ebing ate anymore because mommy realised that its mean to take an animals life or send the to heaven just so we can eat them, and that all these things were animals so know were not going to eat them anymore, mcdonals and most places now offer a vegetarian alternative so re asure them they wont be missing out on anything!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Everyone has their own comfort foods from childhood!. Feed your children delicious vegetarian food and someday they will experience nostalgia for certain dishes!. They just won't be the same ones you remember fondly, but if you know you're feeding them as healthfully as possible, why would fond memories of pastrami be more important!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
i have a girl on my soccer team where the mom was a vegan and the dad converted to a vegetarian and so they raised the kids that way and honestly she 14 and prob 56 pounds she needs to gain wait like if we run into her she lk breaks in half and i mean i knnow peole and there body turns out ockward !.!.!.wait til there old enough to make there own decisions!.!.!.GIVE THEM MEAT!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
i would give them the same things you make for yourself at meals!. if you are out and about and they want a happy meal or something that has meat in it, I wouldn't deprive them of it!. when they get a little older, i would let them make the choice!. i've had this thought too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am life time vegetarian, and I can tell you that veggie cooking is easier than cooking with meat!.
This is what you need to do
make a list of all the foods you were raised with and make the vegetarian versions
go to http://www!.vegetariantimes!.com you'll find easy and free recipes
make the foods you had - example hot dog, but replace animal meat with veggie fake meat!.
have a list of easy to make foods so when you are stressed or short of time you can just quickly make those foods!.
in social situations give your kids the same foods - but the veggie version, so they can still have same enjoyment of being part fo the group, but without eating animal based foods!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Very odd!.
Well, I've raised my kids vegan!. I grew up eating!.!.!. everything!. I have nostalgic feelings towards certain foods I grew up with, but they will have different nostalgic feelings for the food the grew up with!. Lasagna was a favourite of mine as a kid, but I still make it!.!. just without meat or cheese!. Same with pizza!. We just had home made pizza the last two night in a row because they loved it so much and wanted more!.!.!. no cheese, no meat!.!.!. so!.!.!. There you go!. You have to let your children have their own lives, own memories, own nostalgia etc!. They are their own person, and so many parents try to recreate their own childhood with their children so that their kids will grown up with the same ideals, outlook on life, etc!. It never works!.
That said, there are lots and lots and lots of meat alternatives out there!. Yves Veggie Cuisine has lots!. Taiwan pumps out huge quantities of fake meats, seafoods, etc!. And American has lots of fake hotdogs, hamburgers, etc!. Personally, I don't eat these often, but prefer real food -- unprocessed!.
There are also soy yoghurts, soy cheese, non-dairy icecreams, non-dairy beverages of all sorts!.!.!. my kids miss out on nothing as far as healthy alternatives being available to replace the junkfood crap typical kids eat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
