How do veggies and vegans feel about products that taste 'like' meat?!

Question: How do veggies and vegans feel about products that taste 'like' meat!?
Both as products in themselves, and as a device to eat less/ no meat for whatever reason!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I buy them as convenience products as you would buy burgers or other fast food, so they are a little bit "junk" to me!. Vegetarian products can be junk too!. Being vegetarian doesnt mean being completely healthy, there's plenty of "vegetarian" crap there! So i prefer to cook at home but i have nothing agains them, they work fine when i dont have time and im too busy to cook and still a lot healthier than meat of course!
I dont eat meat because i can't kill so it's fair enough i dont eat it or cowardly pay for it but i have no remorse eating meat-like products as long as they are not meat why not!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have no problem with them!. They're not meat, so there's no reason why a vegetarian or vegan shouldn't eat them

Eating them ever day or every meal wouldn't be the most healthy way to eat - they are processed food after all - but when you're feeling lazy or uninspired they're often easy options!. And some of them are delicious!.

They're probably good for people who became vegetarian for ethical reasons but liked meat and miss it, but they're more than that!. They provide variety of taste and texture to the diet, and provide a centrepiece for some meals in the same way that meat does!.

I was a vegetarian for many years without eating faux meats; when I first went vegetarian the only one that was available was TVP - chunks or mince - which was horrible, boring and limited in its uses!. I've only discovered the wide range of faux meats that now exist fairly recently, and i enjoy some of them a lot!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I personally don't like the products that "look like meat" in the stores!. Not because they are "fake meat", but because it is processed food!. Once you become veggie/vegan, you start out eating those, and then you become more aware of your diet and what is healthy for you!. After awhile, you find out that soy protein isolate is a GMO product and not healthy in the long run for you!. also soy is a particularly known allergen, and most people can tolerate it, but they are still allergic to it and after a couple of years eating it can cause a toxic buildup in your body (chronic fatigue syndrome)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think they're fine, because they're usually entirely made of plant materials, or at most with eggs and dairy added in!. I think it's better for the environment than eating meat, and they are an easy way to help people transition into a vegetarian lifestyle without making them feel like they can't have any of the food they used to enjoy eating!.

I personally never thought meat tasted horrible, I used to like it and that's probably why I ate it when I did!. But eventually the reasons to be vegetarian were much better and more compelling, and now I don't even miss or want to eat meat anymore!. However, when I was 13 years old, it was a lot easier for me to figure out how to replace meat at the dinner table with microwaveable veggie nuggets and burgers than it would have been with totally foreign tools at the time like trays of tofu!.

Now I really do prefer making things from scratch and I only buy "nuggets" and ready-made burgers very, very infrequently!. Plus, some of the store-bought stuff is very processed and just isn't as healthy as cooking at home is!. But overall it's still a useful tool to transition to vegetarianism!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i think they're great!
they can be really helpful for people who are just starting out as vegetarians because they're an easy substitute in meals where you're used to having meat, or they can calm a craving!.
my husband and i went grocery shopping yesterday and he said to me, "why would someone who is vegetarian eat this stuff!? it seems almost hypocritical to me to eat something that tastes like meat when you don't eat the real thing"!. i know a lot of people feel this way!.!.!.!.and if you're saying you're a vegetarian because you hate the taste of meat then you probably are being a bit hypocritical!. however, for those of us who went veg for moral or spiritual reasons but still like the flavor of meat, it's a great way to substitute a cruelty-free food into our diet in place of tortured animal flesh!.
i personally love the flavor of meat and just not the cruelty, so it would be hard for me to be veg without something to calm those cravings!.
i give a big high-five to the veggie burger, and of course, fakon =DWww@FoodAQ@Com

i don't see anything wrong with it and don't know why people who eat meat care!. i didn't go veg cuz i didn't like the taste of meat, i went veg because of how it's produced!.!.!. animals being tortured on factory farms, in pain, suffering, killed for me to have an overabundance of meat!.!.!. not necessary!. i can have a veggie burger or other soy meat that tastes great and no pain and suffering was involved!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think they are a good way to start being a veggie, when people think they are missing chicken or burgers!.

I used to eat them quite a lot when i was first veggie but now cook my food from fresh ingredients, I prefer the taste of fresh meals now!

The only product that I thought resembled chicken through texture and taste were Quorn Pieces/Fillets, but now I'm a vegan they are out of bounds!Www@FoodAQ@Com

well im a veggi

i dnt reallt mind but some people becom veggies cus they dnt like the tatse of meat so they ddont buy these product so it depends releWww@FoodAQ@Com

They are fine!. I just eat them occassionally, they are convinience foods, not a gormet diet!.

To me they don't "taste like meat", i can't remember what meat tastes like so i am not eating them looking for an analogous taste!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well the only 'meat' i have are the bacon flavoured soy chips!.!.!.!. On my potatoes :D

Other than that i have chickpea sausages!.!.!.!

YUM go veg!Www@FoodAQ@Com

well, it's suppose to be a bridge where you slowly leave the meat to point where you jus eat vegitables and stuffWww@FoodAQ@Com
