Vegans don't consume Honey or Milk? What do they eat?!

Question: Vegans don't consume Honey or Milk!? What do they eat!?
This is an add-on to an earlier question (I'm not a troll, just genuinely curious)!.
I can follow the understanding of not eating eggs, but I'm not sure I follow why milk and honey would be bad for a Vegan!.
I get the idea that Vegans are that way primarily for the moral issues of not hurting/eating/using animals!. But bees don't die when they make honey and they're not really harmed by making honey - - its their own natural thing that bees do!.
I guess I'm on the fence about milk and milk products!. I see how the animals could be mistreated or given hormones and stuff, but its not like a cow dies giving milk either!.
And that being said - what does a vegan eat!? I guess I limit myself on veggies (I'm fussy and have food allergies) that I figure mealtime must be really boring for vegans especially!.

Please don't bash me, I am sincerely curious, and I hope I don't offend anyone with my questions!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Perhaps the biggest reason to avoid dairy, aside from mistreatment and premature death of the dairy cows themselves, is the fact that males born to a dairy operation are supplied to the veal industry!. And bees often DO die when honey is harvested, although you'll find that there's a fair amount of disagreement within the vegan community over insect products!. At any rate, to answer your question!.!.!.

We eat fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, oils and everything made from them!. This really encompasses just about everything you can think of from soups and salads, to wraps, to casseroles, to sandwiches, to cookies, to cakes and pies and muffins, etc!. Just about any dish you can conceive of can be made vegan, with the exception of a few (like meringue or souffles) that rely heavily on the unique properties of eggs!.

We enjoy our food as much as anyone does; I don't consider my diet boring at all!. Some meals in the last week have included chickpeas simmered in a sauce of fire-roasted tomatoes and fire-roasted red peppers, seasoned with onions, garlic and cumin, served with garlic saffron rice and oven-roasted asparagus; manzana chili verde made with tomatillos, poblano and jalapeno peppers, navy beans, yukon gold potatoes and green apples, served with jalapeno cornbread; baked pumpkin ziti with caramelized onion and sage-breadcrumb topping served with steamed brocolli and a salad; a veggie-full stir fry with yakisoba noodles and seitan "chicken" strips; and good old spaghetti marinara with garlic bread and a green salad!. Tonight I'm making soft tacos with seasoned tvp "ground beef," refried beans, spanish rice and all the trimmings!. Does all that really sound boring to you!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Let me preface by saying I am not a vegan

However

The dairy industry is the focal point for the veal industry!. Cows need to be pregnant in order to give milk (just like any other mammal)!. Pregnant cows have babies!. Dairy farms are not in the business of raising cows so they slaughter their calves while very young as veal!. So, if you drink milk, you support the veal industry!.

The honey thing I never got eitherWww@FoodAQ@Com

Vegans wont use animal products at all!. Bees are "kept" for honey!.!.vegans don't believe that any animal should be kept to obtain something from them!. The vegans I know eat lots of veggies, fruits, grains and legumes!. There are thousands of recipes and products that have no animal products!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The land where milk and honey flows is a myth!.!.so vegans can cope with wonderful vegetables, rice, fruit, barley, couscous, amaranth, millet, pasta, tofu, soy, seitan, beans, bread!.!.!.just name it!. :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Some vegans give up milk, eggs, honey, etc for moral reasons, not becuase it's bad for you!. Honey has always been a controversial thing!. Vegans still eat more than veggies lol!. !!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Honey is commercially cultivated with hundreds of thousands of bees per "hive"!. In order to keep the bees under control, the keeper has to "smoke" them where s/he subdues the bees into a stupor so that they can take the honey away!. Bees are crushed, injured, and/or killed quite often!. Honey is essentially bee vomit!. Not too appetizing!. And honey is food for bees, made by bees!.

In my opinion, the dairy cow has one of the worst lives of all animals!. If I had a choice I would prefer to be cattle raised for meat rather than for dairy!. This way I would not be chained to a machine day in and day out!. I would not have my newborns taken away to be raised for veal!. also, in the end, when the dairy cow no longer is productive, it is still killed to make into ground beef products!. Most fast food beef is sourced from spent dairy cows!.

So on to what we vegans eat!. There are a mass of foods that we eat!. We obviously don't eat meat, dairy, eggs, or any products derived from these sources!. What's left are all plant foods!.!.!.also some fungi and bacteria (yeast)!.

We eat fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, nuts, seeds, legumes, tubers, grains, mushrooms, yeast, etc!.

This may sound boring but when you consider that many foods you already eat only contain these items you would be surprised!.

I eat breads, pastas, veggies, fruit, burritos, salads, potatoes, stir-fry, soy milk, nuts, cookies, crackers, muffins, pies, rice, hot and cold cereal, falafel, curry dishes, soups, stews, chili!. The list goes on!. It never gets boring!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Dairy cows are injected with hormones and antibiotics, and their feed is laced with pesticides!. All of these things are detectable in milk!.

Cows must be frequently inseminated, or the milk dries up!. If the calf is male, it becomes veal!.

Saying " Please don't bash me, I am sincerely curious, and I hope I don't offend anyone" is sort of pointless after the comment of "I figure mealtime must be really boring for vegans especially!." You "figure" wrong!. Most vegans are really good cooks- we have to be!.

Regarding honey, many vegans think is wrong to use any animal product!. Many bees die prematurely, apparently!. Personally, I can't get all worked up over the rights of insects!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Dairy is just as cruel an industry as egg farming!. Cows are impregnated, their young birthed then immediately robbed from them (females are raised to produce milk, males are chained and crated for 16 weeks before being slaughtered as veal), they're injected with hormones (to produce more milk) and antibiotics (to ward off the infections they inevitably get from living in such cramped quarters), fed nutritional supplements (cow milk is high in calcium only because cows are supplemented with calcium), milked by machines (machines aren't gentle), and when they are finally spent they are slaughtered and made into ground beef!. Dairy cows live less than 25% of their natural lives, and all that time they are enslaved by humans for a food that humans shouldn't be eating anyway!.

Honey is food made by bees FOR bees!. When you steal honey, you're stealing their food!. also, it's bee vomit!. I don't eat vomit!.

The bottom line is that these foods do not belong to humans!. It's not ours to take!. So, vegans prefer to leave it the hell alone!.

Veganism boring!? You couldn't be more mistaken!. Vegans are spoiled with an embarrassing variety of delicious foods!. Vegans eat grains, fruits, vegetabels, nuts, seeds, legumes, and soy foods like tofu and tempeh!. A vegan diet is ANYTHING but boring!. I've been vegan for about a year and a half, and I eat more delicious foods now than I ever did when I was a non-vegan!. Thanks to my cooking, there are 2 more vegetarians and 4 more vegans in the world!

Best of luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hi there!. I'm a former vegan!. I was a vegan for health reasons (now just vegetarian) but I hope I can answer your question!. From a health standpoint, dairy products like milk can create mucus in the body!. This is a real problem for some people!. If you always have a cold or runny nose or constipation or even blotchy and uneven skin, it could be because of dairy!. For some people, it is incredibly hard on the digestive system!. From a cruelty-free standpoint, drinking milk and honey supports the way animals are "exploited" for their meat and by-products and animals on feedlots are often subjected to hormonal treatments that get into the milk!. I don't think bees are, however!. I have yet to see a bee pumped up on steroids! Ha, ha! Anyways, the final part of your question!.!.!.!.Vegans eat everything except meat, milk, honey or dairy products!. This leaves fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, tofu, temph, soy, etc!. Many vegans are excellent cooks who use a very wide variety of plant based foods!. For example, quiona instead of rice because of its high protein content and mangoes and starfruits in addition to the standard apples and oranges!. Hope that helps!Www@FoodAQ@Com

i can only answer for the milk, i really don't know about the honey either!.!.!. i think with milk is that the cows are still kept in the same conditions that they are kept in to make meat!. they are still in pain and suffering in factory farms, repeatedly raped, in bad conditions, fed meat and hormones!.!.!.!. all sorts of cruel things!. adn then they end up being slaughtered and turned to meat at the end anyway! so i can completely see not wanting to consume milk because it comes from the same cruel conditions!. now if cows were raised on farms with a farmer milking them in a morning and chewing grass the rest of the day it'd be just fine with me and i think most other people, but unfortunately it's not :/Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, Mark is spot on about the dairy industry!. It is linked to the veal industry!.!.!.and when the milking cows are "dried up" (and this is quite literal!.!.!.they are kept pregnant and forced to lactate until they collapse under exhaustion and overwork), they are shipped off to become a hamburger at a fast food restaurant!. So the dairy industry is still closely tied to the meat industry through veal and over-worked cows!. On top of that I think the American Dairy Association is lying to us!. Why do we steal the milk of another species and drink it long after our initial growing stage!? That just doesn't add up to me!.
Bees are exploited because the honey that they make is actually their food for the winter!. They work hard all spring and summer to produce it and the humans take it away!. Then they have nothing to eat!. The average honey bee travels about 55,000 miles just to make ONE pound of honey!. They have to visit 2 million flowers to collect that amount of nectar!. It's really sad!. I couldn't imagine working that hard to have it all taken away!.
What do I eat!?
I eat a lot of different foods - fresh fruit and veggies, beans, legumes, whole grains, etc!.
I eat salads, tofu, quinoa, brown rice, steel cut oats, fruit, black beans, black eyed peas, whole-wheat pasta, sweet potatoes and so on!.
I drink rice milk or soy milk instead of cow's milk!. I sweeten my tea with brown rice syrup instead of honey!.
It's not hard being vegan!. You just have to think (and eat!) outside the box!.
Cheers!Www@FoodAQ@Com
