As a chef and nurse practitioner, I totally agree with you!.!.!.!.!.!.

It seems like in everything these days, it a "situational ethic" that goes into play!.!.!.!.!.

Vegetarians and vegans believe that animals have the capactiy for suffering and therefore exclude animals and animal ingredients, to varying extents, from their diets!.

Yeast is not an animal, it is a fungus!. There is no less reason for a veg*n to eat yeast than there is to eat mushrooms!.

There are beers and wines that are not acceptable to vegans, but it has to do with ingredients like isinglass, from the swim bladder of a fish, which are used to clarify the final product!. Most American beers, all German beers and many other beers are vegan-friendly and, likewise, there are many vegan wines to choose from as well!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've gotten this question about bread as well!. However, yeast is a fungus, and a single-celled one at that!. They are not animals, and they do not have any observable system to feel pain, like a nervous system in animals!.

So, vegetarians and vegans will eat yeast as well as other foods derived from fungi and microorganisms!. Some beers and wines are also made or processed with non-vegan ingredients, however, like some are filtered through bone meal, I believe!. Vegans that are aware of this will avoid this type of liquor, but there are many options for the wary vegan!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

We drink wine and beer that has not been fined using animal products such as gelatine, bone or isinglass!.

Vegans do eat living organisms - we eat leaves, stems, roots, fruits, nuts, seeds, fungi, beans, berries, all these things are technically from living organisms!. Yeast is only a living organism in the same way fungi is - and we eat mushrooms!. Plants and fungi are all living organisms but have no central nervous system or brain and so do not feel, think or suffer!. Wine is not a living organism, it is fermented grape juice, it is made from a living organism - the fruit of a grape vine, but the end product itself is not considered to be a living organism (in that it has none of the recognised characteristics of life) Wine does not grow, reproduce, move, respire, have any senses, feed or excrete, therefore it is not a living organism!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Wines, beers, and everything fermented anaerobically is made with yeast!. Vegans (and vegetarians, too) eat yeast- it is a fungus, not an animal!. The yeast is also filtered from the wine and recycled in the brewery, and never killed, so vegetarians wouldn't face a problem even if yeast were an animal!.

What makes non-vegan alcohols unacceptable is that they've been filtered through a filter containing charcoal made from animal bones!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

There are vegan wines, beers and spirits out there!. Vegetarians may or may not care about their alcohol being vegan!. As far as wine and beer being a living organism, I am not sure I believe that, but I know that I am a more interesting organism when I ingest enough of it! LOL!Www@FoodAQ@Com

V & v's don't care about bacteria and the like, just animals!.

They'll drink wine & beer, unless the beer has fish scales in them or an animal was used to stomp on the grapes for the wine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

im a vergetarian only 14 but my family drinks like the older ones that are that age to be!.!.!.its fine i think with them!.i think it goes with the rules and regulations of your family!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vegans approve of vegan approved wines and beers!. The same for vegetarians!.

Wine is considered a living organism eh!? By whom!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I know I did!. Not sure about others!. Yeast was not going to stop me and I don't see how wine is considered "a living organism!.!.!."Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yeast is a fungus not an animal!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

So are plants!.!.!.!.hmmm!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
