You mean in the US!?

Prior to the Industrial Revolution, not many people ate meat anyway!.

In the 60s and 70s, there were many people turning to vegetarianism--seminal books included Diet for a Small Planet and the magazine Vegetarian Times!.

However, veganism became bigger in the 80s with Diet for a New America; then in the 90s more information about the health benefits of a vegan diet was published!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Veganism has existed for thousands of years!. The first vegan society and the coining of the term "vegan" were by the efforts of Donald Watson in the 1940's!.

(Donals Watson didn't "found" veganism!. He gave it a name and a newsletter!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Good answer from cookie - I would also like to put in that the spiritual values from India had premeated the conciouness of many in the West!. A strict Hindu is often vegan and Jains are vegan!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
