Where Can I find Out The Regulations For Farm Animals?!

Question: Where Can I find Out The Regulations For Farm Animals!?
After watching the horrifying footage that PETA produced (www!.meta!.org), I would feel a lot better if I knew that it was a bit outdated or that it was really extreme situations before they got shut down!. I literally feel sick about it!. On some level was it propaganda!? I'm very sensitive to visual things like that and am having trouble dealing with it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Although I know alot of people will dispute my answer, the kind of treatment really varies from farm to farm!. Some farm hands are incredibly cruel and probably subconciously get the job to let of their anger and frustrations and some farm hands (my personal experience) are extremely gentle!. Whenever you get a group of guys (sorry to stereotype) together on a job, they tend to show off!.!.!.and often abuse is their outlet!. My suggestion would be to contact your local extension office or f!.s!.a!. office to find out about regulations for your area!. You do need to realize though that regulations don't mean they are followed!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

In the UK, you would refer to DEFRA and trading standards!.

If you have specific questions I can help as we have a registered farm and get copies of all the regulations, feel free to email me!.

The number of regulations and amount of text is enourmous and there is no single point of contact or URL for access to all the regs in any meaningful way!. I can point you to http://www!.defra!.gov!.uk/ but you will not find one "book" with all the regs in an easy to read format!.

And that is half the problem, there are so many rules that many farmers don't know where to start

If you are intersted in livestock welfare, this might be a good place to start!.
http://www!.defra!.gov!.uk/farm/livestock/i!.!.!.

I can also point to specific regulations that are adhered to or ignored as I see dairy, beef and sheep farms several times a week!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Much of what PETA has on their site is the extreme and not the norm!. Most of the real bad stuff is bad individuals not bad producers!. In my opinion PETA is a very biased group that will stop at nothing to further their agenda!. When I was on the farm we did not even prod animals very hard as they were going to the slaughter house because that caused bruises and we could be docked for each bruise!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
