Question: Question about vegetarians!. If they don't eat meat because the animals were living !.!.!.!?
weren't the plants living , too!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Plants have no central nervous system and cannot feel pain the way humans and animals do!. Animals can feel physical and emotional pain, plants cannot!. Animals scream, cry, and bleed, plants cannot!. Pulling a plant from the ground is not cruel, keeping a pig in a crate so small that they cannot move for months is cruel!.

Edit: Ok so maybe plants can feel pain, but they are still not kept so cruely before being "killed" the way animals are!. Plants get to live in their natural state, animals don't get to live anywhere close to the way they should!. I have to eat to live, and there is FAR less cruelty involved in eating them!. And why are you letting this bother you so much!? Is what we do that important to you!? We are not affecting your life in any way!. You are not going to change any of our minds on what we are doing, if anything at least for me it reminds me of how cruel people are about animals and makes me only want to fight harder to save them from their lives of misery!.

There are people who choose to eat only plant fruits, which does not kill the plant, and they are called fruitarians!. Their compassion has evolved passed just the animal kingdom!.

I see this question alot of the time!. It is just a matter of choosing how much compassion you want to have at the place you have evolved too!. Most people start with animals since they are more related to us than plants (though as you said "plants are living too")!. And just being vegetarian (not to mention vegan) is hard to do in our culture/society!. It is courageous to stand up for your compassion, as I expect it is a foreign concept to most people!. Once made aware of the fact that animals are the same as us, or at least should have the same rights to live a life they were made to have without the slaughterhouse as the end of their suffering in the life we provide for them, then you begin to look at a hamburger in a different way!. You also look at the big semi trucks that are hauling animals on the way to the slaughterhouse in a different way too!.

Compassion opens many eyes and of course the heart!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Have you ever seen a plant cry, or yelp, or squeal for help!? Does broccoli quiver in your hand when you cut it from the ground!? No!?

The only reason to have a nervous system that perceives fear and pain is if you can run away from it!. Beans can't run away, so they have no pain receptors!.

Don't tell me you haven't seen the films on the meat industry!? They crying and whimpering of the animals lets me know they feel fear and pain!.

I guess if animals felt no fear or pain, eating them wouldn't matter so much!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You bring up an interesting point, but there are persons who do not eat living plants nor animals!. They are called fruitists, or fruitarians!. They only eat the plant's fruit or vegetables that have not lived!. And by biological definition, living envolves, breathing, growing, reproducing and excreating!.

The plants screaming part is a bit of a shocker, because the human ear can not hear frequencies of 200-hertz, explaining why the average person had no idea that, that was possible !

I have been vegetarian for two years, and my friends are constantly condeming it, because they say that the plants also have feelings, so what makes animals so special !? !.!.!.!.!. I do believe in animal rights, because they relate to humans !!.!.!.!. For example animal testing!. When we have our medication and modern fashion, that are tested on rabbits, monkies and several other creatures, most people forget that their DNA is not similar to that of a human, hence after our domestic friends are ill-treated, then human samples are used, most of which are homeless persons who have been caputred ! !.!.!.!.!.!. As you can see, its not only the animals concerns we are thinking of, its also our fellow man's !.!.!.!.!. At first, I adopted the vegetarian diet for health reasons, and also because I was not interested in consuming meat!.!.!.!.!. but after I found out that animals and humans were being tested so that we can get another pain killer or eye shadow, that I thought that I was doing it not only for myself, but for the benefits of others!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Of course the plants are alive!. And no, we cannot survive without eating something!. Eating lower on the food chain ensures that we do less harm and create less pain on the planet!.
According to Peter Tompkins, author of The Secret Life of Plants, he discovered through clinical studies that when informed of an immanent harvest -- plants actually turn off their pain mechanism; whereas an animal has a very different response!. They experience both fear and anger, flooding their tissues with those hormones!.
Personally, I think we humans have an abundance of those emotions ourselves and truly do not need to ingest them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The point is that when we eat plants and their products we don't actually cause its death compared to the death of an animal!.

I mean, if we are to eat a piece of fruit we could just get the fruit itself and not kill the entire plant!.

Besides, we need to eat something to survive!. What do you suggest!? We starve to death!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

if science proves that plants suffer in the same way that animals do i will listen!. until that day, i guess i'll be a plant murderer, thanks!.

just something to think about:
unless we are eating straight minerals from the earth (picking up handfuls of dirt and eating it) we are eating plants!. if all you eat are animals you are still ingesting the remains of the plants they have eaten that supplied their body with nutrients!. why not skip the middle man and just eat the plants!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Put yourself in the place of animals that are being killed! Plants are of lower order in the creation and do not feel as much as an animal!.

Our bodies are not equipped to hunt or kill animals!. We need guns, arrows etc to kill!. We can be perfectly healthy without eating meat!.

If one wants to eat meat, they can eat dead animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i agree with ALL of the above answers, and just wanted to add that not all vegetarians are such b/c the animals were living!.
many vegetarians choose to be so b/c of the health benefits!. there are many, and i don't feel like getting into it! go to the veg/vegan area for all of that!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes plants are living but they were put on the earth for us to eat!. They do not have blood, veins and a heart and in my opinion plants are our natural diet!. Animals should not be eaten !.!.!. and if it's okay to eat animals why not eat all animals then!? Why just stick to chicken and lamb etc; Why not eat dogs, cats, mice!.!.!. or even your next door neighbor!? Go on, knock next door and bring the Tomato Ketchup with you!Www@FoodAQ@Com

My friend became a vegetarian because of all of the trouble going into processing red meat and it contributing to global warming and stuff!.

As others have said the plants don't have feelings and cannot feel any pain, or at least that's what we think!.!.!. lolWww@FoodAQ@Com

When you eat most plant foods, you definitely cause the death of that plant in the same way that animals are killed for food!. Most plants are harvested whole, and even the ones that are not will be plowed under shortly!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The bottom line is, whether or not plants can feel pain or "scream" (which is highly debatable) we NEED to eat plants to live - we DON'T need to eat animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

as if u care about plants! i refuse to listen to someone who doesnt even care about their own category - animals!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you want to live, you have to eat living things!.
Think about it, how long do you think you would live eating rocks!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
