Are you against organized hunts of animals that destroy crops ?!
In some cases were there are tight restrictions on hunting deer, populations have risen at a large amount!. A local farmer in my area has had 100 acres of corn and soya been crops destroyed by deer two seasons in a row by deer, result of this forced him into bankruptcy!. With a growing decline of farmers these days, we as a society can't afford to lose any more crop farmers!.

It's not my business to even be against something like that, if that's the man's livelihood and that's the only way he can protect his crops, then let him do it!. The only thing I'd be against if it was myself holding the rifle that's shooting an animal!. It's not who I am and it's not what I want to do!. But I don't impose my own beliefs on others!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
In my opinion the best option would be for him to build a good/better fence/enclosure!. Maybe the government would help him out with funding, seeing how this problem came to him and not vice versa!. A few dollars to build a fence or enclosure that still allows the crops to grow and a little labor setting it up is much better than killing deer, in my opinion!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I don't know, but weren't the animals here first!? If we keep taking away their habitat, where are they supposed to go!? I can't believe all these big, smart men can't think of any way other than killing to solve ANOTHER problem!.
If they'd just leave the animal population alone, it would return to its sustainable size!. Killing deer just promotes does having twins!. When there's no food, her body just reabsorbs the fetus!.
People just think that all the world is theirs, and lives are worth nothing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No, expecially if there is a shortage of natural predators (i!.e!. wolves) to keep their population in check!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
If they did not shoot and kill the natural predators, they would not be in this situation to begin with!. It's their own fault!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Its a moral dillemmaWww@FoodAQ@Com
I have no problems with traditional hunts - say, hunting under Aboriginal treaties, or controlled hunts for meat!. I could never do it, but that's just me!. I think there's something offputting about culling to save crops; mostly because if one species has increased exponentially, it's a sign to me that the ecosystem is being taxed in unnatural ways!.
Honestly, though - as much as we hear about farming in decline, it's a bit exaggerated!. In Atlantic Canada, farming (especially dairy) has increased in the past few years!. Organic farming has increased output in the past five years in the prairies!. Farms are widely subsidized!. It's mostly pig farming that has decreased recently in Canada, and they're being replaced with other livestock!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Farmers should do what they need to do to protect their livelihood!.
Again, I apologize for the child's post!. You know what I'm talking about!. It is not representative of the whole!.
Janel is not a regular here and I have never seen that name before!.
BTW--when I say "the child" I am NOT referring to Janel!. I am referring to a different question entirely!.
drusilla--is there a different sentiment between killing animals to preserve crops and killing them while harvesting crops!? You can't have your lettuce, and eat it too!.
emily said it best-it truly is a moral dilemma!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

This is a really tough, thought provoking question!. I'm a vegetarian and couldn't imagine harming an animal!. However, if this man has been forced into bankruptcy, he has to figure something out to salvage his finances and support his family!. He has a right to earn a living!. At least he's not out selling drugs!. Hard question!. Not black and white!. Too many things to consider!. He's not out there killing animals senselessly just to hang their heads on his walls!. No one should judge him!.!.!.as long as he tries to be as humane as possible in handling it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
