Vegetarians - how do you feel about gelatin?!
Most people know that gelatin is an animal byproduct, made from the bones, skins, and other parts of an animal's carcass!. So, vegetarians, how do you feel about things that contain gelatin!? I'm ovo-lacto but don't have a problem with gelatin because the animal wasn't killed for its' gelatin potential, it was killed to make steak!. One day, if ever the demand for steak is less than for Jello, I'll avoid gelatin, but until then, I don't feel so bad using the scraps!. also, most yogurt has gelatin, so I realized that unless I avoiding yogurt, I might as well not avoid fruit snacks and other gelatin containing things!. How do you feel about that particular issue!? also, about taking fish oil supplements - I take fish oil because I get dry eyes!. It's a matter of necessity more than choice, I also take flaxseed oil!. Is one still a vegetarian if they use fish oil!? Just some random questions, I like knowing other peoples' opinions!. Passionate opinions are welcome, bashing is not!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

While skipping on all the "obvious" meat is a great thing, it does not make you a vegetarian
Geletin forms part of the profit from the animal, whether it be cow or pig!.
slaughter by-products account for 20% of the profit made from a carcass!.
If geletin wasn't used, meat prices would have to go up, less people would consume it!.
Therfore, if you eat geletin, you are responsible for the animal slaughter!.
using your logic, if the cost of geletin was higher than meat, you would start eating meat and still call yourself a vegetarian!. Why not !? afterall, the cow was killed for the geletin in that situation!. See, when you look at it that way around, it makes no sense at all to eat products just because they are the lesser part of the cow!. Cows are not killed for thier ear lobes, is it ok for a vegetarian to eat those !?
Someone could equally argue "when, i might as well eat the meat because the animal is killed for its leather and slaughter by-products"!. Its not true, but thier argument is just as valid as yours!.
Vegetarians do not eat slaughter by-products!. Its in the definition and has been since 1847
I see your addition comment of "Looking for slightly more in depth opinions!." There is no need for any more depth!. Geletin is a slaughter by product and vegetarians do not eat it!. It really is that simple!.
Once you get used to the labels and ingredients list, its easy to cut out!.
I doubt you are calling yourself a vegetarian out of ignorance or because you like the "trendy" name, so perhaps you can read up a bit more about what a vegetarian does, and does not, do!. Browse through the site of a trusted organisation like the Vegetarian Society, that will help you!. www!.vegsoc!.orgWww@FoodAQ@Com

Hi, I personally wouldn't touch anything that had gelatin as an ingredient, just the thought of how it is made makes me cringe so I certainly wouldn't want to consume it!.
Maybe I was lucky as I managed to find a good variety of yogurts without gelatin when I was a vegetarian(vegan now)!.
As you are still consuming fish through fish oil supplements you would not be classed as a vegetarian in definition terms, and I don't mean that disrespectfully!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I stay away from gelatin because the thought of what it is made from really grosses me out!. Although I do admit in times of drunkenness I have been offered jello shots and taken them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
My feelings about gelatin!? It's a slaughter by-product and completely not vegetarian!. You can rationalize it any way you want, but you're still eating a dead animal!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Gelatin and fish oil both come from dead animals!. They are not vegetarian!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Gelatin is nasty!. To me, it'd be the same thing as chowing down on a steak!. Disgusting!Www@FoodAQ@Com
the industry breaks even with meat, it makes it up w/ leather, milk, and gelatin!.
I'd say you're more pesca-veg since you don't mind taking fish oil!.
also, the bad yogurt companies use gelatin (yoplait, I'm looking at you) in yogurt!. I read the ingredients and only purchase yogurt with live active cultures and don't have gelatin!. "most" yogurt is the flavored stuff that's supposed to make you think you're healthy, but they just added tons of sugar to make it "palatable"Www@FoodAQ@Com
