I'm a Vegetarian Is this ok to eat?!

Question: I'm a Vegetarian Is this ok to eat!?
I have been a Vegetarian since last year, when school started, I'm not eating any meat, or anything that has meat init, my best friend know this, and her mom, because we where talking about it, well I was over at her house, we where outside just hanging out with a group of friends!. Her Mom made these Nissin Food Chow Mein Spicy Chicken things, I asked her if there was any meat in it she said no, I ate it because that what she made us, so my question here is, did I eat meat!? In addition, if so what did I eat!? How can I make sure not to eat meat again at friend’s houses!? I feel rude asking to make something else because I do not eat meat, is it rude!? What should I do!? In addition, is Chicken Powder meat!? Thanks so much!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Ramen noodles (I believe this is what you got, but by a different name) use powdered broth in their meat flavors (beef, chicken, shrimp)!. Most noodles are made with eggs, so if you are strict about that you might want to do a bit of research about what brands/types of noodles are egg free!.

You can be polite about being a vegetarian!. Just say that you'd rather not eat ____ because it has ___ in it (fill in the blanks) and most people won't be offended!. If your friends offer you something else that's fine, just don't demand to be fed something else: say you can eat when you get home!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It is flavored with chicken bullion which is powdered chicken broth!. But there is very little chicken used to make that fake broth stuff so it depends on how strict you are!. There may have been small diced of chicken but I doubt it!.

If you always want to be sure of what you are eating then you probably should start bringing a PB&J or Amy's frozen dinners with you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

no, you can't eat that!.

no meat!.!.!. vegetarians do not eat meat!.!.!. not even highly processed meat to the point it's biproduct!.

noodles are questionable!.!. as a matter of fact any processed food is questionable!.

most processed foods with or without meat additives in any condition!.!.!. have something derived from animal product!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

what you should do is tell your friend you are a vegetarian!. I'm sure she/ he would understand!. Take my advise!. My dad's a vegetarian so when he goes away on a business trip, it is our time to eat all sorts of meat!. But when he comes home, it's just fish all the way!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes, you ate meat if she said it was chicken rolls!.
just make sure to ask what is in the food before you eat it!.
chicken powder is not necissarily meat, but it is dried chicken!. i wouldnt eat it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes you have!. and not to be rude, just eat the things that are obviously not meat!. and sort odf dispose of the meat (offering it to someone or throwing it away!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

You just said it was called Nission Food Chow Mein Spicy CHICKEN things, so I'm assuming it does contain meat, since chicken is meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

chicken powder is meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes you ate meat! Bad Bad You!!

Pick it out next time, LOLWww@FoodAQ@Com

What you ate was not vegetarian!. What you learned is that you can't trust other people to do your label reading for you!. Many people just don't take into account that it doesn't have to be a big slab of meat to be non-vegetarian!. For future reference, if something has the word "chicken" in it, it's a sure bet that it has chicken in it!. It's not rude to say, "No thank you, I'm vegetarian!." Often people will then at least try to offer you something else!. In this case, instead of eating chicken you could have used it as an opportunity to educate your friend's mother about what vegetarian means!.

"Chicken powder" is just what it sounds like, powdered chicken!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's made from chicken, so yes you ate a meat product!.

Try bringing a snack so you'll never go hungry if no vegan-vegetarian options are available!.

It's hard to demand a vegetarian meal from your friend's parents, as they are not necessarily aware of what exactly you do and don't eat!. They may not have the ingredients, or know how to cook the foods that you eat!. Unfortunately, you can not expect them to cater to your specific dietary needs!.

Your friends parents should however, respect your dietary restrictions and alert you to foods that have meat in them!. Perhaps her mom simply wasn't aware of the ingredients!.!.

You really need to educate yourself about vegetarian food - you can not expect others to know what you can and can not eat!. I think you should take responsibility for your dietary decisions and learn to avoid situations such as the one you described!. Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

What really bothers me about the situation that you describe is that if say - - someone had done this to my grand daughter, who is allergic to milk - and knew that it had milk and just didn't want to tell - - she gets ill and breaks out all over her body!

While you don't have that type of reaction - the thing is that the other person knew that you didn't eat meat - - and they went ahead and knowingly fed it to you!.

Just - - not rude - - but - - not sure what to call it - - just not nice to say the least!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm not sure why you're getting so many snarky answers!.

It's a tricky issue being a guest in someone else's house and dealing with the food!.

But to answer your question, yes it is rude to ask for something else to be made!. If the peson doesn't know you're a vegetarian, you can just accept the portion of the meal that doesn't contain meat!. These Nissin things sound a bit unusual - normally, you'd be able to eat the potatoes and salad, etc!. If offered meat, simply say "no thank you"!.

Some of this gets better as people get to know you and know ahead of time about your diet!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i don't think it's rude to let someone know you don't eat meat!.!.!.!. what if your allergic!? or have a medical reason!? or its a religion!? they wouldn't be "sneaking" it in then!. If you know in advance someone will be making food let them know you don't eat meat and always offer to bring your own food!. does your friend know!? she could of let her mom know beforehand as well so you don't have to feel awkward for any reason!. however, if it's a spur of the moment thing and someone goes to serve you food just politely tell them "i'm sorry but i actually don't eat any meat!." it's usually not a big deal, be polite and accept whatever they do have that doesn't have meat (even if it is pb)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ahh!.!.!. a couple of different things going on here!. The Chicken powder that you've eaten is in fact, just a taste substitute!. It's fine to eat that!. Please remember, if you are becoming a vegetarian, take multi-vitamins! When you switch, you're body loses a lot of nutrients for your body making your health poor because it's used to the nutrients you were eating!. also, when at a friends house and they are serving something that you don't want (i!.e!. meat), politely tell them that you decline the food they are offering!. If you're in a big group, you can later tell your host that you've chosen to make a lifestyle change and become a vegetarian!. If you're in a smaller group you're comfortable with, you can explain but don't get too detailed!. Most polite hostesses will just say "That's okay, can I offer you something else!?"!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
