Onion rings?!

Question: Onion rings!?
I love onions but I've never had one where the coating didn't fall off right away!. Are there any tricks to getting the coating to stay on the onion!?

Another thing; what kind of onion works or tastes best!? I like the yellow or vidalia onions!. I wonder if you could use pearl onions and make onion nuggets!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
My best success has come using beer batter and deep frying them!. The wet batter seems to work best!. When I have time!. I coat them and put them on a sheet in the freezer for a little bit for the batter to firm up and then dip them again before putting them in the fryer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Walla Walla Sweet Onions! Come on - no question!. =)

If those aren't available where you are at, then use vidalia - I think they have a great flavor!. I wouldn't use pearl onions, but that's just because I don't really care for them and then I wouldn't have onion rings - just onion blobs (or nuggets as you say)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

soak the onion in buttermilk!. i think Vidalias are the best!.
the down side is onion rings if done right are one of the most fattening foods you can eat!.
good luckWww@FoodAQ@Com

Chill the water or better still use chilled soda water!.
Coat onion twice!.
Hot oil ( non fat)
Enjoy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

im not sure but this doesn't really belong in the vegan & veg section on answers!. ThanksWww@FoodAQ@Com
