If meat is essential, I would have died many years ago!.

Just because we *can* eat something does not mean we are *designed* to eat it!.

The whole ''We need meat'' argument is a load of garbage!. Some guy at University seems to think that meat is the *only* source of protein! He's very misinformed!.

Donald Watson was a vegan for 60 years of his life, he lived to be 95!.

A Top Contibutor in this Forum has been meat free for 28 years!. I have been meat free for 11 years!.

Meat is optional!. You either eat it or you don't!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

We aren't made!. We aren't built!.

We are omnivores!. We eat pretty much everything out there!. Anything beyond that is preference!.

If you prefer to eat unhealthy meats, you won't drop dead on the spot, but you are likely to eventually suffer from health issues that are a result of cumulative effects!.

If you prefer to eat healthy meats, you need to do so in moderation and consume a variety of non-meats!.

If you choose to eat no meat, you need to eat a variety of non-meats and supplement B-12!.

All this talk about teeth is BS!. We have a variety of teeth to accommodate our varied diet!. One woman spouting opinion in a podcast is meaningless!. We don't have carnivore teeth!. We don't have herbivore teeth!. We have omnivore teeth!.

If you eat what you need to eat to cover the nutrients the human body needs without poisoning it with large amounts of chemicals or unhealthy fats and cholesterol, and exercise regularly, you will have done what you need to do to give yourself the best opportunity to remain healthy outside of genetic issues!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Rather than seek answers here (you'll seldom get an unbiased or educated response), go to a reliable source and get information from individuals who have actually researched the literature and understand the science behind human nutrition!.

Colleen Patrick Gudrea at http://www!.compassionatecooks!.com has several fascinating podcasts and essays on various topics, and in one of them she specifically addresses the "we were made ot eat meat - just look at these two pointy canine teeth in my mouth" issue and completely de-bunks that myth!. Go get thee reading!

EDIT:

Spring Has Sprung Me's answer is a perfect example of the uneducated response I refer to!.

Patrick-Goudreau's essays and podcasts might be reduced to opinions by some individuals (who have neither read nor listened, I'm sure), but I can guarantee you there's substantial research and development behind them!.!.!. more than you'll find here!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The human body needs some nutrients that are found primarily (but not only) in meat!. The main ones mentioned are the B complex vitamins!.

The other dietary componenet meat (red, poultry, fish) have in abundance (some would say in to great of an abundance) is protein!.

Once you have supplied all your dietary needs, it does not matter what the source is!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

We are here to live, to learn, to be alive, to grasp as much of life as we can!.
Our purpose in life is not to eat!. Nor to kill!.
Food is energy, fun, creation on a different level!.
If we eat something that is full of pain, blood, toxins!.!.!.omething that makes us feel bad, weal and sick, could this be our purpose!? So, no, we are made for whatever reason, but not to eat meat!. :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Read what you want - but any information you get on a vegan site is also biased!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, we are!. In fact, in the Bible (not really sure where) it says that animals were put on earth for human consumption and use!. I dont' believe some animals shoudl be eaten, like dogs, cats, and horses, but that's just me!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
