Would a veg*n mom give her baby formula or breastfeed?!

Question: Would a veg*n mom give her baby formula or breastfeed!?
This question came up at my La Leche League meeting while some of us moms were chatting about our eating habits!.
Personally, I feel that formula is a horrid thing to give a baby, not too mention the fact that we moms already make the best milk for our babies!.

So what are your thoughts!?

Environmental concerns are also raised by the use of formula: the vast herd of cattle (with their methane output being a major source of greenhouse gasses) that is necessary to supply the basic materials for formula, the energy required to manufacture and ship formula, plus the waste generated by discarded formula packaging are all unnecessary for breastfed babies!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am a vegan!. When I had my child, a healthy baby boy who weighed 8 pounds and was 22 inches long, I made a decision to breast feed!. This went wonderfully for about two weeks but then he began to feed from both breasts and still be hungry!. It was not a matter of saving my milk, there just was not enough there for him!. I'm not small breasted, but I do tend to be thin!. I wondered if being thin and vegan was the issue, or just genetics!. Mom said we kids were the same way!. She suggested that I do what I could and then supplement with formula!.

My work is microbiology research, and I did not want to use soy because I know that not enough test results have been done to completely to determine how safe they are for babies!. By the way, animal testing is also used on many soy products in case some people aren't aware of that!. It may claim differently on the product label, but many of the direct chemicals used by the soy manufacturer to make the product have been tested on animals!. also, soy manufacturers are required to follow strict cleanliness guidelines with making their products, and most governments require the use of certain cleaning agents and also latex gloves!. Believe me, those strong cleaning agents and latex gloves were tested on animals!. It is a broad stretch of imaginative writing for soy products to claim no animals were harmed or tested!. It should say: "No animals were harmed or tested by definition of what current laws allow us not to tell you!."

There's more involved to making the world right than just stopping the use of baby formula!. Some vegans are using the soy for their babies, and yet the soy which are used to produce soyamilk amongst other items are partly blamed for the deforestation of rainforests!.

It is difficult to get away from our intricate involvement in animal harm, and we all need to do what we can to help stop it!. Where your baby is concerned, you do what you feel is best!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've seen eBay Rock's posts before and I don't think she would ever say anything to intentionally hurt someone!.

Breastfeeding is not always possible!. My wife breastfed and sometimes the babies were still hungry!. In the case of Summer or eBay Rocks, I would say that nature will kick in and tell each of you intuitively what is needed for your babies!.

I don't think anyone or anything can beat the wisdom of a mother's instincts and intuition!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Veg*ns aren't all of one mind, they have diverse views and make a variety of different decisions!.

That said, there is no reason on earth why a veg*n mother wouldn't breastfeed!. Human milk is intended for human infants, just as cows' milk is intended for their young!.

The only veg*n mum I know who didn't breastfeed her children was my vegan sister who wasn't able to!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Purely for health reasons, breastfeeding is best when possible regardless of whether the mother is a veg*n or not!.

If that is not possible, then there is no alternative but to go to formula, again regardless of her beliefs!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Summer!.!.!.she's not running her mouth!.!.!.she's asking a question about vegetarians or vegans breastfeeding!. Vegans don't use animal products and formula is (except soy) a product of animals!.
Reread the question, then answer it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

There are soy formulas out there you could use if you dont breastfeed!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's been said here a million times, but veg*ns are individuals and you simply cannot make a generalization about them beyond not eating animals!.

There are reasons why some women can't nurse and must feed their infants formula so calling it horrid without knowing why a woman might have chosen it is pretty judgemental!. Some mothers simply don't produce enough and some might be forced to take medications that would transfer into their breastmilk!.

That said, most all of the veg*ns I know do or did nurse!. It's the most natural, nutritionally complete food for an infant and in NO way is breastfeeding incompatible with the principles of veg*nism!. I really don't understand for the life of me why this question comes up so often!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Soy is bad too!! Read this article that I found!.!.!.

Soy Formula Kills Three Babies

The "Remedia" brand of soy-based baby formula appears to have caused or contributed to three infant deaths and illness among other babies!.

The formula, which is sold as a Kosher feed and is thought to be popular among Orthodox Jewish communities in New York and other areas, did not contain enough vitamin B1, which is vital to brain development!. A company representative said that tests have shown the formula contained at least 10 times less B1 than was advertised!.

An investigation is still underway to determine for sure whether the absence of B1 was to blame for the deaths and illnesses!. The product has been recalled in Israel and parents who have fed their babies the formula are urged to get them booster shots of the vitamin!.
